6.1

Startup

6.1.1 Updating software

The Balluff website offers the actual firmware for download in the product area. Updates may include error fixes,
speed optimizations or added functions.

NOTE
To get the maximum benefit from the BVS ID it is recommended to regularly update the BVS ID with
software updates.

NOTICE
Loss of data
It is advised to create a backup of every instance prior to installing an update. Such a backup can then
be used to safely downgrade to an older version in case of problems. Downgrading to an older version
directly is not supported.

NOTE
This section describes the software update for the BVS ID with a Windows PC. The process will need
to be adapted for other systems.
To update the camera perform the following steps:
1. Download the newest update file from the Balluff BVS ID product website (www.balluff.com) and save it
on your computer.
2. Unzip the downloaded file. It contains:
a. A PDF document that describes the new functions, fixed errors and the update procedure.
b. The file BVSID_FW_x.x.x.xx.xxxx_xxx.sh. This contains the new software and must be loaded
into the BVS ID. X.X.X indicates the software version.
3. Please make sure that the BVS ID does not run an inspection program and it is not acquiring any
images.
4. Press the Windows + R, keys and enter the address of the update directory of the BVS ID (\
\192.168.10.2\updates).

NOTE
In order to access this folder you have to use the following credentials:
• Login: expert
• Password: expert
Windows Explorer opens up in the update directory of the BVS ID .
5. Copy the update file (BVSID_FW_x.x.x.xx.xxxx_xxx.sh) to the updates folder. The BVS ID will now
automatically start the update process. This may take up to 5 minutes. The Power LED on the front side
will flash red during the update. The BVS ID is inaccessible in the network during the update.

NOTICE
Risk of equipment damage
Do not switch off the BVS ID during the update process. This may cause irremediable damage
to the BVS ID.
6. After a few minutes the update will be finished and the Power LED will change to green. The BVS ID is
now ready for use.
