9 Recycling and disposal

9.1 Disposal of the battery

According to the European Battery Directive (2006/66/EG) the producer is re-
sponsible for the disposal of the battery. A worn out battery must be returned
to the battery manufacturer (see battery markings) or to a manufacturer rep-
resentative. If you need help in returning the battery, please contact your local
truck dealer.
The symbol with the crossed out dustbin means that the battery must not be
disposed of with household waste. The marking with chemical designation in-
dicates which heavy metal is found in the battery.
9.2 Environmental impact of the battery
Pb, Hg, Cd
The substances that make up certain batteries and are most harmful to hu-
man health and the environment, are the heavy metals mercury (Hg), cad-
mium (Cd) and lead (Pb).
9.3 Handling oil
There are two types of oil in the truck; hydraulic oil and gear box oil. Used oil
must be disposed of as hazardous waste and sent to be taken care of by au-
thorised agencies.
Even the oil filters must be handled separately as hazardous waste.
9.4 Scrapping the truck
The truck consists of parts that contain recyclable metals and plastics. Below
is a list of those materials used in the truck's sub-systems.
