TROUBLESHOOTING
These instructions do not cover all details or
variations in equipment, nor do they provide
for every possible condition which may be
encountered in relation to installation, operation
or maintenance. Should additional information
be required, please contact the nearest ABB
sales office.
PROBLEM
Motor does not start
Motor does not reach the rated speed

Motor overheated
Vibrations or loud noise
Motor troubleshooting chart
Your motor service and any troubleshooting must
be handled by qualified persons who have the
proper tools and equipment.
CAUSE
Power supply
Incorrect connections
Mechanical brake locked
Mechanical failure
Overload
Supply voltage
Voltage too low at motor terminals
because of line drop
Overload
Overload
Failing ventilation
Wrong connections
Harmonic distortion
Foundation
Bearings failure
Misalignment
ACTION
Check the ratings of the power supply.
Check the connections of the power
cables.
Check that the brake is supplied with
24VDC within the tolerance range and
that is not locked.
Check that the mechanics coupled to
the motor allow free rotation.
Reduce the load or resize the motor.
Check the level of the supply voltage.
Use higher voltage or transformer
terminals or reduce load. Check
connections. Check conductors for
proper size.
Reduce the load or resize the motor.
Exchange any two phases.
Reduce the load or resize the motor.
Clean the motor, the filters and the
grid of the fan motor. Check that
the fan is operating. Check for free
ventilation and cooling.
Check that no phase is incidentally
open or grounded.
High harmonic distortion in the
frequency converter output is not
allowed.
Check that the foundation is
adequate. Renew and reinforce the
foundation if necessary.
For ball bearings, contact ABB for
replacements.
For roller bearings, check for
regular lubrication and re-grease if
necessary. Do not exceed with grease
quantity. Contact ABB for repairs.
Check for correct alignment of motor
and load. Ignoring misalignment can
cause serious damage of bearings,
shaft and mechanics.
