Special features of the induction hob

Glass ceramic hob

Unlike cast-iron hobs, your oven has a flat
hob made from glass ceramic with clearly vis-
ible cooking zones. So that the glass ceramic
does not become damaged and lasts for a
long time, you need to care for it and maintain
it and use suitable cookware.
WARNING
Risk of electric shock!
Touching live parts may result in severe
injury or death.
■ If the surface is cracked, switch off
the appliance to avoid the possibili-
ty of electric shock. Water that runs
through cracks inside the glass ce-
ramic hob may be electrifi ed! If there
are visible cracks on your glass ceram-
ic hob, disconnect the appliance from
the mains (switch off and/or unscrew
fuse). Contact our Service Centre (see
page EN-40).
NOTICE
Risk of damage!
Improper handling of the appliance
may result in damage.
■ Do not push heavy pans across the
appliance; The glass ceramic may be-
come scratched.
■ Wipe the hob and the base of the
pots prior to use to wipe away any
dirt which may cause scratches.
■ Use the hob as a work surface or to
place objects on only once it has com-
pletely cooled off. Materials which
are sensitive to heat such as plastic
dishes could become damaged if this
is the case.
Special features of the induction hob
Operating principle of an
inductive hob
A coil with an electric current running through
it is located beneath the glass ceramic surface
that generates a magnetic alternating field.
This alternating field induces eddy currents
in cookware placed on the cooking surface
and thereby heats the cookware. The eddy
currents therefore turn the cookware into a
source of heat itself. Although the surface of
the glass ceramic hob heats up, this is not as
a result of the electric field, but as a result of
the heat that emanates from the pot.
The main advantages of an induction hob as
compared to a conventional glass ceramic
hob are listed below:
– The cooking process is expedited.
– Energy consumption is considerably low-
ered.
– Greater flexibility: Only the section where
the cookware is actually placed heats up.
– Cleaning the hob is made easier because
the glass ceramic is heated only where the
pot makes contact with the hob and there
is less chance of food easily burning.
– Higher safety: As soon as cookware is
removed from the hob, the cooking zone
automatically switches off. The cooking
zone cannot be switched on without any
cookware.
