Section 5 Maintenance
Do not dissassemble the sensor or digital gateway for maintenance. If the internal components must be cleaned
or repaired, contact the manufacturer.
The sensor and digital gateway are a programmed pair. Do not replace the sensor or digital gateway
independently.

5.1 Maintenance schedule

Table 1
shows the recommended schedule of maintenance tasks. Facility requirements and
operating conditions may increase the frequency of some tasks.

Do a calibration verification
The sensor should be inspected and calibrated by the manufacturer's service department or a
certified partner at two-year intervals (one-year interval for USA waters). A certificate of calibration is
given when all service is completed. If service is not completed, an adverse effect on the accuracy or
function of the sensor can occur.
Note: It is important to understand the latest requirements for calibration and verification from your local regulatory
agency.
5.2 Clean the sensor
To prevent damage to the sensor, do not use organic solvents (e.g., acetone or methanol), strong acids or strong
bases to clean the sensor.
Pre-requisite: Prepare a mild soap solution with a non-abrasive dishwashing detergent that does not
contain lanolin. Lanolin leaves a film on the optical surface. Examine the sensor periodically (and
when the PAH measurements are unusually high) for debris and deposits. Clean the sensor when
there is a buildup of deposits.
1. Stop the flow of water to the sensor.
2. Disconnect the sample tubing and fittings from the sensor.
3. Use the supplied cleaning swab with a mild soap solution to clean the inner quartz tube of the
sensor. The inner quartz tube connects the sample inlet and outlet. Clean the cleaning swab
frequently.
4. Clean the inner quartz tube until no material is removed with the cleaning swab.
5. Rinse the inner quartz tube with clean, warm water.
6. Clean the sensor with isopropyl alcohol (90% or higher) and a cleaning swab if necessary.
7. Use 5% sulfuric acid and a cleaning swab to remove deposits if necessary.
8. If a substance cannot be removed, contact technical support.
9. Make sure that there is no material in the sample inlet and outlet tubing.
10. Connect the sample inlet and outlet tubing to the sensor.
11. Start the flow of water to the sensor.
12. Select SENSOR SETUP > [select sensor] > DIAG/TEST > COUNTERS > CLEAN SENSOR to
set the CLEAN DAYS counter to zero.
