Checking the chain tension (fig. 65)
Important
Have the chain tensioned at a Ducati Dealer or
Authorized Workshop.
With the motorcycle on the side stand, press down the
chain with a finger. Then release and measure the distance
between the surface of the shoe and the centre of the pin
below it. The distance should be 38-42 mm.
Warning
Correct tightening of the tensioner counter nuts (1) is
essential for rider safety.
Important
An incorrectly tensioned chain causes parts of the
transmission to wear out rapidly.

Lubrication of the drive chain

The chain fitted on your motorcycle has O-rings to protect
moving parts from dirt, and to hold the lubricant inside.
To avoid damaging the seals, use only specific solvents
for O-ring chains, and do not use high-pressure steam
cleaners or water jets.
After cleaning, dry off with compressed air or an absorbent
material, and lubricate with SHELL Advance Chain or
Advance Teflon Chain on each link.
Important
Using non-specific lubricants may cause severe
damage to the chain and the front and rear sprocket.
