Weighted effective value of acceleration
The indicated weighted effective value of acceleration has been measured
against standard test procedures and can be used by way of comparison with
another device. The indicated weighted effec ive value of acceleration can also
be used as a preliminary evaluation of the exposure.
The indicated weighted effective value of acceleration can differ
during operation from the indicated value, dependent on the manner in which
the device is used. Dependent upon the actual conditions of use (periodic duty)
it may be necessary to establish safety precautions for the protection of the
operator.
2.1. Electrical connection
The soldering unit must be connected to a socket with a protective earth (earthed
wire). Ensure that he mains voltage is correct! Before connecting the unit,
As a rule, the prisma electrodes (Fig. 1 [1]), are used, since they have a larger
area of contact with the pipe and hence heat up the latter faster han the rod
electrodes (2). The rod electrodes are intended for cramped spots where
operation with the prisma electrodes is not possible.

3. Operation

3.1. Mode of operation
Once the electrodes of he soldering unit are applied to a metallic con ductor,
e. g. a copper pipe, a circuit with low voltage and high current intensity is closed
by pressing the switch (3). The electrodes have a relatively high resistance in
the transformer/cable/electrodes/work piece circuit, and herefore heat up. They
may become red hot with larger pipe sizes. The resultant heat is transmitted
to the workpiece by heat conduction, and the workpiece is heated to soldering
tempera ture in a matter of seconds.
Prepare the soldering joint properly (see also 3.3). Connect the unit to a
protec ively earthed socket. Attach the tongs (Fig. 1 [4]) wi h he prisma electrodes
(1) or – in narrow spots – with the rod electrodes (2) to the workpiece. Operate
the switch (3). Keep the switch (3) pressed during the soldering opera ion. The
soldering temperature is reached within seconds. Feed in the solder until the
bright metal surface. To prepare the soldering joint, spread REMS Paste Cu 3
of the paste is that its change in colour indicates that the temperature needed
achieved. In any event, however, REMS Lot Cu 3 must be added too. REMS
Lot Cu 3 and Paste REMS Cu 3 have been designed specially for drinking
water pipes, and they comply both with German regulations as set forth in
DVGW work sheets GW2 and GW7, and with DIN standards. REMS Paste Cu
3 has been tested and approved by DVGW (DVGW Fl 038 test symbol).
4. Servicing
4.1. Maintenance
The REMS Contact 2000 is maintenance-free.
4.2. lnspection/servicing
Check the electrodes (Fig. 1 [1], [2]) and holders (Fig. 1 [6]) for damage and
con sumption from time to time. Change the electrodes if necessary. To change
the prisma electrodes, undo the two screws (Fig. 1 [5]), take out the worn
electrodes, clean the contact surfaces of the holder with a wire brush, insert
new prisma electrodes, and retighten the screws. Re place deformed or burnt
holders.

The warranty period shall be 12 months from delivery of the new product to the
original purchase documents, which must include he date of purchase and the
designation of the product. All functional defects occurring within the warranty
period, which are clearly he consequence of defects in production or materials,
will be remedied free of charge. The remedy of defects shall not extend or
renew the warranty period for he product. Damage attributable to natural wear
and tear, incorrect treatment or misuse, failure to observe the operational
instructions, unsuitable operating materials, excessive demand, use for unau-
thorized purposes, interventions by the customer or a third party or other
reasons, for which REMS is not responsible, shall be excluded from the warranty
Services under the warranty may only be provided by customer service stations
authorized for this purpose by REMS. Complaints will only be accepted if the
product is returned to a customer service station authorized by REMS without
prior interference in an unassembled condition. Replaced products and parts
shall become the property of REMS.
The user shall be responsible for the cost of shipping and returning the product.
The legal rights of the user, in particular the right to make claims against the
seller under the warranty terms, shall not be affected. This manufacturer's
warranty only applies for new products which are purchased in the European
Union, in Norway or in Switzerland.
