lashing (276). Insert the anchor ropes into the holes in the breast hook, and then give it a few turns around the windlass
drums before inserting it into the chain pipes so that it ends up on the ship's lower deck.
PHOTOS 152 & 153: Make up the channels (281, 282 & 283) and stain them the colour of pine wood. Adjust and fit the
channels onto the rubbing strake on both sides of the ship, making sure that they are aligned just behind the holes in the
deck for the respective masts, as shown in photo 153.
PHOTO 154-156: Bend the parts (284) to make up the brackets that support the channels and then fit them into place
underneath the channels, using the pins (A) located between the eight holes in each of the channels. Now make up the
lashings (285) of the clump blocks (I) and then pass them through the holes in the channels. The links (287) are then
located underneath the channels, pinned directly onto the hull using the pins (A) and the chain plates (286). Carry out
this same operation for each of the channels. Now make up the hull side ladders (288 & 289).
PHOTO 157 & 158: Paint the rings of the parts (290) and the supports (291) black. Using pieces of strip stained the
colour of sapele wood make up the handles (292) and then make a 1 mm diameter hole in each handle and insert an
eyebolt (B). Make a 1 mm diameter hole in the top of each pump body (290) and attach the handle, as shown in photo
157. Now insert the parts (293), previously painted a gold colour, into the holes on the deck, as shown, and over them
insert the pumps.
PHOTO 159: Make up the lanterns using the parts (294, 295, 296 & 298). Make holes in the stern transom for the lantern
support arms (297). Make up and attach the sheet booms using the parts (300 & 301), the eyebolts (B) and the pulleys
(D). Attach the chains (299) to the underside of the stern transom and the rudder, using the eyebolts (B).
PHOTOS 160 & 161: Make up the ten stanchions (302) and paint them yellow. Fit five of the stanchions on each side of
the hull in the positions shown in the photos. Make a 1 mm diameter hole in the top of each stanchion in order to fit the
half-pounder swivel guns (303). Locate one of the fairleaders (304), painted yellow, on both sides of the hull.
PHOTO 162 & 163: Make up the quarter galleries using the parts (305, 306, 307, 308, 309, 310 & 311). Previously paint
the parts in an aged bronze colour, or similar, and the bases (305 & 306) black, to give a sensation of depth. Before
fitting the galleries to the sides of the ship trim away the corresponding lengths of rubbing strake so that they will fit flush
to the hull.
PHOTOS 164 & 165: Now make up three pot racks using the parts (312 & 313). Stain these assemblies the colour of
walnut wood. Now place the plant pots (314) in the holes in the pot racks. Make up the plants by applying glue to a
length of green thread and braiding it. Make up differing shapes, so that they look like random branch formations. Fix the
plants (315) and insert and glue them to the plant pots and then place the racks on the deck as shown in photo 165.
PHOTOS 166-168: Refine al of the parts that make up the skeleton of the launch and assemble them on the false keel,
but do not glue them. Fit the false keel and the central frame on the assembly base. Now glue the false keel and all of
the frames to the base using fast drying adhesive and then add the stern transom and the bow reinforcements. Stain the
whole assembly brown.
PHOTO 169: Sand down this assembly, working from bow to stern, in order to bevel the edges of the frames. Now glue
the planking strips (A17) and the rubbing strakes (A18) to the hull, using fast drying adhesive. When you have done this
cut away the launch frames and separate it from the assembly base.
PHOTO 170: Now glue the bottom planking (A19), stained the colour of sapele wood. Stain the parts (A20 & A23) the
colour of walnut wood and then glue them into place n the launch.
PHOTO 171: Stain the hull of the launch and the stem (A21), stern post (A22) and the keel (A22) a dark walnut wood
colour, and then glue these parts to the launch.
PHOTOS 172-174: Stain the parts (A23) the colour of walnut wood and the parts (A24, A26 & A27) the colour of sapele
wood. Now glue the parts (A23, A24, A25, A26 & A27) into place as indicated in the photo. Insert the pins (A) and cut off
their heads. Glue the parts (A28 & A29) into place stained the colour of sapele wood. When you have finished apply a
coat of colourless pore-filling lacquer.
PHOTOS 175-177: Make up the oars using the (A32 & A33) and stain them the colour of pine wood. Make up the parts
(A31, A30 & A34) and stain them the colour of sapele wood. Cut out triangles of the cloth (A35) and wrap them round
the masts, gluing them into place. Now glue all of these parts onto the launch. Place the launch on the supports on the
deck and tie it down using the lashing (A36).
