PHOTO 127: Glue pieces of the strip (189), having first stained them the colour of sapele wood, to the inside of the
capstan body (188). With the help of a file, give shape to the pieces of strip and then stain the edges of the pieces again.
Using a black marker pen simulate the hole sin the capstan, as shown in the photo.
PHOTO 128: Make up the pillars (190), and paint them yellow and glue them into place at the distances shown in the
photo. Now make up the handrails (191 & 192) and stain them the colour of sapele wood. Paint the exterior edge of the
handrails and the gallant rails yellow, also at the stern. Now attach the capstan in the middle of the deck between the
hatch and the grating, as shown.
PHOTOS 129 & 130: Make up the parts of the flag locker and rudder head housing (193, 194, 195, 196 & 197). Now line
this assembly using the lining strips (198) and make up the roofs (199 & 200), stained the colour of sapele wood. Make
up the door frames (201 & 202) and the panels (203). Now fit a pin (A) to simulate the door handle. Adjust and glue the
flag locker and rudder head housing assembly centred on the stern. Make up the tiller (204) and stain it the colour of
sapele wood. Fit four eyebolts (B) and two pulleys (D) to the end of the tiller, as shown. Now glue the other end of the
tiller to the top end of the rudder blade.
PHOTOS 131 & 132: Now make up the wheel drum (205) and make a 5 mm diameter hole centred at each end. Insert a
shaft (206) into each end of the drum. Paint the wheel (207) and its pedestals (208) the colour of aged copper. Glue the
parts (209) into place and make up the pedestal bases (210) stained the colour of sapele wood. Fix the wheel into place
centred on the deck at a distance of 4 mm in front of the stern grating. Make eight 1 mm diameter holes in the deck and
fix the eyebolts (B) and pulleys (D), as shown in photo 132.Now make up the tiller rigging (211) with the thread following
the direction indicated by the red arrows.
PHOTO 133: Make up the different side pin rails, making ten 1.5 mm diameter holes in the pin rails (212), nine 1.5 mm
diameter holes in the pin rails (213) and 15 1.5 mm diameter holes in the pin rails (214),. Round off the two ends of each
pin rail and stain them the colour of sapele wood.
PHOTO 134: Make up the pin rail (215) with three 1.5 mm diameter holes, and the main mast pin rail (218) with nine
holes. Make up the posts (216) and the posts (219) and stain them the colour of sapele wood. Assemble the pin rail
(215) using part (217), and the pin rail (218) along with the brackets (220), stained the colour of sapele wood.
PHOTO 135: Insert and glue the belaying pins (H) to all of the pin rails. Glue the pin rails (212 & 213) adjusted under the
bulwark gallant on both sides of the boat, as shown in the photo. Attach the main mast pin rail (218) centred on the deck
between the mast hole and the hatch. Make ten 1 mm holes in the deck in which to insert the eyebolts (B) in the
positions shown in the photo.
PHOTO 136: Make up the chain pipes (229) and make a 3 mm diameter hole in each one. Stain them the colour of
sapele wood and glue them into place, along with the bowsprit pin rail and the foremast side pin rails (214), as shown in
the photo. Adjust and glue the breast hook (221) onto the bow bulwark. Stain the parts (217 & 222) the colour of sapele
wood and glue them into place as shown. Paint the chimney (223) black and glue it into place. Make up and stain the
hatch using the parts (224, 225, 226, 227 & 228).
PHOTO 137: Make up the gun carriages using the parts (230 & 231) stained the colour of sapele wood. Shape the two
wheel shafts (232) and glue on four wheels (209) for each gun carriage. In order to give them an aged look apply a little
bitumen based wood stain. Paint the gun muzzles (233) the colour of aged copper and attach them to the gun carriages.
PHOTOS 138 & 139: Glue the parts (234, 235, 236, 237, 238 & 239) together to make up the binnacle housing. Line this
assembly using the strips (240). Make up and the parts (241 & 242), stain them the colour of sapele wood and insert the
pins (A) to simulate handles for the doors.
PHOTO 140: Make up the two mizzen mast pin rails and their posts (243 & 244) and stain tem the colour of sapele
wood.
PHOTO 141: Glue the binnacle housing and the two pin rails, along with their belaying pins (E) as shown in the image.
Insert an eyebolt (B) into the bulwarks on each side of the gun ports and tie off the pulleys (D) that hold the guns. Attach
an eyebolt (B) using a pulley (D) and insert the necessary eyebolts (B) into the deck for the gun recoil rigging (245).
PHOTO 142: Stain the launch chocks (246 & 247) the colour of sapele wood. Make ten 1 mm diameter holes in the deck
and insert the eyebolts (B) in the positions shown in the photo.
PHOTO 143: Paint and stain the parts (248, 249, 250, 251 & 252) that make up the windlass. Make up and stain the bell
post (253). Make up the parts (254 & 255) and insert an eyebolt (B) in the bell (256).
PHOTO 144: Make up the parts (257, 258 & 259) and stain them the colour of sapele wood. Insert and glue the belaying
pins (H).
PHOTO 145: Attach the pin rail, the windlass and the bell post into place as shown in the photo. Make lengthways
grooves in the knightheads (260) and stain them the colour of walnut wood, and then glue them onto the bow gallant rail,
as shown in the photo.
PHOTOS 146 & 147: Dampen the parts (261, 262, 263 & 264) and bend them so that they adapt to the shape of the hull
and then, after staining them a walnut wood colour, glue them into place as shown in photo 147. Attach one of the parts
(267) onto each side of the hull, stained the colour of sapele wood and then make a 3 mm diameter hole in the hull. Fit
the counter timbers (265), stained a walnut wood colour, and glue on the figurehead (266) painted the colour of aged
bronze, or similar.
PHOTOS 148 & 149: Make up the catheads (268) and stain them the colour of sapele wood. Fix the hoops (269) and the
eyebolts (B). Fix the catheads into place using the pins (A), as shown in photo 149, and then attach the pulleys (D) to
the catheads. Make two 3 mm diameter holes in the breast hook and then make up the samson posts (270 & 271) and fix
them in place on the gallant rail, distributed as shown in photo 149.
PHOTOS 150 & 151: With the parts (272 & 273) stained the colour of walnut wood, make up the anchor stocks. Make
the offsets in the sides and insert the pins (A), inserted without their heads. Use the brass strip (274) as shown. Now
insert the anchor (275) into the hole in the stock and fit the ring (N). Repeat this operation when making up the second
anchor. Attach the rope (277) to the ring at the top of the anchor and tie it off with the thread (278). Now insert the anchor
rope (277) into the holes that you made in the hull at the bow. Tie a block (E) to the anchor ring and insert the anchor
rigging (279) between the holes in the cathead and the block. Support the on the side sansom posts and tie it off with the
