Flying the PRION 5

We recommend completing your first flights with your new wing in
calm conditions. This will give you the opportunity to get to know your
glider. Launches and ground handling on a training hill will also help to
familiarise yourself with the paraglider.

Basics

Risers and lines

The PRION 5 follows the colour coding recommended by the
Para glider Manufacturers Association (PMA):
• The A-lines are red
• C – blue
• Brake lines – orange
For easy identification, we have continued this colour code on the ris-
ers. The split A-riser is fitted with a label marked »Ears«. The B-riser
is labelled »B-Stall«. This should assist you to safely execute these
manoeuvres.

Brake Travel Indicator (BTI)

The colour gradient (from green to yellow to red) enables the pilot for
the first time to correctly dose the brake travel by means of visual con-
trol. This can help to prevent accidental stalling. The green and yellow
area are used for steering, the red area is for the flare when landing.
• B – yellow
• Stabilo lines – green
Another advantage of the Brake Travel Indicator: Instructor inputs may
be significantly more precise and thus aid safety in training. The BTI
was developed in cooperation with the DHV (German Hang-Gliding
and Paragliding Association).
Are there any considerations when using the Brake Travel Indicator
(BTI)? Please note: pitching (caused by brake inputs or turbulence) can
significantly reduce the brake travel to the stall point. Appropriate as-
sessment by the pilot is essential for the safe control of a paraglider.

Adjustable Handle

With the PRION 5's redesigned Adjustable Handles, it is possible to
individually adjust the width of the brake handles. This can be done
effortlessly via Velcro and facilitates correct gripping and direct
brake input. The ball of the hand and the brake line should form a line,
because this makes launching easier, is more comfortable in the long
run, improves the feeling for the glider and thus increases flight safety.
Alternatively, the Adjustable Handles can be used exactly in the same
way as our standard brake handles.
Instructions for use:
1. Unfasten the Velcro
2. Fold the side without the popper to adjust the loop to the right
hand size. Wrap the Velcro around the folded side.
3. Fasten the Velcro
4. Grab the handle so that the folded side sits in the palm of the
hand. The Adjustable Handle is tight-fitting, but can be
released without a problem.
