Maintenance and Servicing
The maintenance and servicing may only be made by authorised skilled personnel, which is trained over corresponding safety
regulations in handling oxygen installations.
When maintaining these units and in situations where personnel could be injured by moving parts or by live electrical parts the pump must be
isolated by totally disconnecting the electrical supply. It is imperative that the unit cannot be re-started during the maintenance operation.
Pumps that have reached operating temperature may have a surface temperature at position (Q) of over 70°C.

1. Air filtration
Note
The capacity of the pump can become reduced if the air inlet
filters are not maintained correctly.
Filters on the suction side (picture Ž):
Mesh filter (f
) must be cleaned regularly depending upon the amount of

contamination. Cleaning can be carried out by washing out or by blowing
out with compressed air. Replace filters if contaminated completely.

Re-assemble in reverse order.
Filter for Gas ballast (picture Ž and ):
All pumps are equipped with a gas ballast valve (U).

Re-assemble in reverse order.
2. Lubrication (picture )
The vacuum pump VC OXY may only be operated with the oil
type OXY-LUBE PLUS 100 (see oil type plate (M)) specified by Elmo Rietschle. This lubricant is
released of the Federal Institute for Materials Testing (BAM).
The lubricant OXY-LUBE PLUS 100 is inert and therefore it extrivates no explosive gas mixtures.
Other lubricants or greases may under no circumstances be used (danger of explosion!).
Please pay also imperatively attention to the warning notice on side 2 below.
The oil level must be checked at least once daily, if necessary put oil into the pump to the top level of the oil
sight glass (l).
The oil change intervals are mainly depending on the share of the impurities of the suction medium. Oil change
intervals from up to 10,000 operating hours are possible.
During idleness of the vacuum pump the lubricant should be clear. A permanent haze is an indication for a
contamination of the lubricant with impurities. A color change of the oil needn't mean reduction in quality.
The oil change should be made with the pump at normal operating temperature and disconnected
from the suction pipework.
The oil can be drained by opening the oil drain plug (K). Filling takes place at the oil filler port (H).
If the pump is not completely drained, the amount of oil required to refill is reduced. Old and used
oil must be disposed of corresponding with the relevant health, safety and environmental laws.
3. Oil separation (picture , , ‘ and ’)
Extremely blocked filter elements will result in
increased pump temperature.
The OXY oil separator elements (5x) may become contam-
inated after a long period of operation which can result in
high pump temperature and motor overload. We therefore
recommend changing the filter elements (L) every 2000 op-
erating hours or when the filter back pressure is in excess of
0.7 bar (see back pressure gauge ¦ optional extra, checkup
at short-term, atmospheric suction). It is not possible to
clean these elements.
To change filters: Remove OXY oil separator elements (L) with
a ring spanner (spanner size 19 mm or

Oiling the O-Rings of the oil separator elements with OXY-
LUBE PLUS 100 makes the screw in easier.
Only the OXY oil separator elements specified by Elmo
Rietschle may be used. Other oil separator elements
may be used under no circumstances (danger of
explosion!).
