Cable entries (KLE)

Generally, only certified cable entries and blanking plugs may be
used.
Flexible cables are to be used with trumpet-shaped cable glands
or other suitable entries with additional strain-relief.
The operating instructions for the fitted cable entries shall be
observed.
When using cable entries with a lower IP degree of protection
than that which applies to the device (see Technical Data, page 9), the
IP -degree of protection of the complete device will be reduced.
If further holes in the terminal box enclosures are needed at a later point in
time, the holes may only be drilled after arrangement with the manufacturer.
6.5
Gland & drilling
When fitting the cable entries, care shall be taken to ensure that the
sealing inserts used correspond to the cable diameter.
If sealing inserts that can be cut to size are used, it is necessary to ensure
that the insert is properly adapted to the cable diameter.
Cable entry holes in the gland plate, side panels or back panel shall be
fitted with suitable cable glands having an equipment certificate.
The operating temperature range and ingress protection rating of the
terminal box is limited to that of the cable gland fitted.
The plain hole shall be no larger than 0.7mm above the major diameter of
the cable gland thread.
Cable gland entries are not permitted in the enclosure lid.
Unused entry holes shall be fitted with suitable stopping plugs having an
equipment certificate, or having a component certificate subject to the
confirmation by the end user/installer of the ingress protection rating and
the permitted service temperature of the component.
The operating temperature range and ingress protection rating of the
terminal box is limited to that of the stopping plug fitted.
In order to ensure the required minimum degree of protection, the cable
glands shall be tightened down.
6.5.1 Gland & drilling areas in terminal boxes type Ex-Cell XL-T
For gland and drilling areas in terminal boxes observe the notices at
chapter 10.3.
6.5.2 Gland & drilling areas in gland plates
For gland and drilling areas in gland plates observe the notices at
chapter 10.2.

6.5.3 Breather/drain devices

Only equipment certified breather/drain devices may be used with these
terminal boxes and they shall be suitable for the wall thickness of the
terminal box to ensure draining can occur, subject to the confirmation by
the end user/installer of the ingress protection rating and the permitted
service temperature.
The breather/drain devices must be installed in their correct orientation in
the bottom face.
The operating temperature range and Ingress Protection rating of the
terminal box is limited to that of the breather/drain device fitted.

6.5.4 Adaptor/reducer devices

Only adaptor/reducer devices having an equipment certificate may be used
with these terminal boxes subject to the confirmation by the end user/
installer of the ingress protection rating and the permitted service
temperature.
The operating temperature range and Ingress Protection rating of the
terminal box is limited to that of the adaptor/reducer device fitted.
6.6

Gland plates

Flange plates for the terminal boxes type Ex-Cell XL-T shall be fitted so that
the IP protection is maintained.
The torques given in the Technical Data shall be observed.
Over tightening might impair the protection category.
Flange plates of stainless steel terminal boxes shall be fitted in
such a way that the IP degree of protection in maintained.
PE conductors fed in from the outside shall be connected to the PE
terminal provided on the flange.
Attention: Metal flanges, metal plates and metal cable glands shall
be included in the equipotential bonding system.
When the gland plates or terminal box panels are painted, the required
entry holes provided by Cooper Crouse Hinds shall not have paint on the
entry hole seal faces. If cable entry holes are added by the end user in the
gland plates/terminal box panels, they shall ensure that any paint is
removed from the entry hole seal faces.
The details of the internal/external earth stud assemblies can be found in
Fig. 6.1.
Details of the maximum permitted glanding areas, maximum entry
quantities and minimum entry centres can be found in section 10. This
information is based on Capri glands, other manufacturers may differ. It is
recommended that additional clearance be considered to aid installation
and maintenance.
6.7

Electrical connection

Before opening the apparatus, it is necessary to ensure that
there is no voltage or to take suitable protective measures.
The electrical connection of the apparatus may only be carried out
by skilled staff and in acc. to IEC/EN 60079-14.
The table of current load values found inside the cover of terminal
boxes type Ex-Cell XL-T shall be observed.
The maximum number of terminals as well as the maximum rated
current shall be observed to avoid an inadmissible heat rise.
The insulation of the conductors shall reach up to the terminal.
The conductor itself must not be damaged.
If multi- or fine-wire connection cables are used, the wire ends shall
comply with the applicable national and international rules (e. g. use of
ferrules).
