4) If adaptation to the anatomical body contours of the patient is required,
shape the tubes between the base plate and the supports manually over
a suitable edge (see fig. 4). Functional risks are associated with, for
example, repeated cold forming and the resulting reduction in
breaking elongation (strain hardening).
5) If required, remove the same number of extension elements not needed
to adjust the circumference from both sides and then reattach the belt
guiding elements (see fig. 5). Shorten the base plate pad accordingly
(see fig. 6).
6) Secure the two-piece waistband to the back support in the optimum pos
ition for the patient using countersunk screws (see fig. 7).
7) Position the back support dorsally and the base plate ventrally on the
patient.
8) Insert the waistband symmetrically into the ratchet closures (see fig. 8).
Fine adjustments can be made by means of the ratchet closures (see
fig. 9).
9) Check the proper fit of the orthosis and correct if required.
10) Adjust the length of the waistband pad (see fig. 10) and fasten it with
clip rivets (see fig. 11).
11) Shorten the ends of the waistband protruding from the ratchet closures,
leaving some in reserve, and round them off to remove any burrs (see
fig. 12).
12) To open the orthosis, press one of the buttons on the ratchet closure
(see fig. 13).
5.2.1 Checks
Before handing over the product to the patient, check the following after
applying the orthosis to the patient:
Pressure, placement, and fit of the three supports (1, 6, 7).
Tension and proper positioning of the waistband (9) and base plate (2).
Fit and hyperextension effect in the sitting position.
6 Cleaning
The orthosis is not damaged by water, which means that personal hygiene
(e.g. showering) and therapy in water that contains chlorine or salt are, in
principle, possible when wearing the orthosis. The orthosis must sub
sequently be cleaned as follows:
1) Remove the textile covers from the supports and wash at 30 °C in the
washing machine.
2) Clean the orthosis with a damp cloth and neutral soap.
