INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
Follow standard procedures for exposure and mobilization of
the severed nerve (see Figure 1). Determine the nerve diameter
in millimeters (mm) using a suitable measuring instrument.
Select a NeuraGen® nerve guide of sufficient diameter to allow
easy insertion of the nerve stumps into the nerve guide. Account
for normal edema following traumatic nerve injury. Hydrate
NeuraGen® nerve guide in sterile saline for a minimum of 10
minutes before use. NeuraGen® nerve guide must be long
enough to allow each nerve stump to be drawn into the lumen
of the nerve guide a distance greater than or equal to the nerve
diameter. After hydration, NeuraGen® nerve guide may be cut
to an appropriate length as required. Hemostasis of both nerve
stumps must be achieved prior to beginning the entubulation
procedure. When a tourniquet is used, the tourniquet must be
released and hemostasis achieved before the entubulation
procedure commences.
Suturing Procedure: Using atraumatic sutures (see Figure 2),
pass the suture through the wall of the NeuraGen® nerve guide
from outside to inside, at least 1 mm from the end of the nerve
guide. Pass the suture transversely through the epineurium of
one nerve stump at a distance from the cut nerve face at least
equal to the diameter of the nerve. Reverse the suture and
pass it through the wall of the nerve guide from the inside to the
outside. Gently draw the nerve stump into the nerve guide by
pulling the suture such that the nerve stump is drawn into the
nerve guide. The final length of insertion of the nerve stump into
