Assembling the Ellipse
Disconnect handset cord from telephone and connect it to socket marked 0 at the bottom of base unit (A). Connect cord
1
with modular plugs (G) to handset socket marked 0 on the telephone and to socket marked
unit. Connect power unit adaptor (E) to socket marked 2 at the bottom of base unit, and then to a power socket. Switch
on power.
2
Mount base unit on stand (D) by turning clockwise until secure. The three cords can extend from the front or back of the base
unit as you wish. Mount the headset stand (B) on top of the base unit.
3
Insert battery (F) at rear of remote unit (C) by sliding into place until it clicks.
4
Connect headset to bottom of remote unit using the Quick-Disconnect connector.
5
Insert remote unit into base unit. Both sides of base unit can be used. The battery charging indicator (V) on base unit will light
up. This side will be referred to as the front of the base unit.
Checking the system
6
Switch on the headset connection by pressing the headset/handset button (I) on top of base unit (press gently until it clicks).
The on-line indicator (IV) on front of base unit will light up. After 5-45 seconds, the on-line indicator (VI) on top of remote
unit starts flashing. The system is now working. If the on-line indicator does not flash, recheck assembly from Step 1.
If the lights are off (the headset/handset button is in handset position), press the headset/handset button once.
Make sure that the mute function is off. If the mute function is on, you will hear a signal every 3 seconds in your headset
(see Technical Data). Turn off the mute function by pressing the mute button (VIII) on the remote unit once.
Before setting up Ellipse to your telephone
7
The battery for the remote unit is not charged when delivered. To start, place remote unit with battery in base unit for
at least 1 hour before making the adjustments below. It takes 3 hours to fully charge the battery.
Note: If your telephone has volume control, set the volume in the middle position.

Adjusting Ellipse to your telephone
8
Put on your headset.
9
Lift handset from telephone (or if available on your terminal press the headset button) and listen for a dial tone in your
headset.
10 If there is no dial tone, adjust the telephone termination switch (III) at the rear of base unit. Move from A to G until the dial
tone is clear. If the dial tone is just as clear in position A as in G, leave switch in position A.
Adjusting the microphone volume
11 Change from headset to handset position by pressing the headset/handset button on top of base unit once.
12 Put on your headset, call someone using your handset and ask the person to help you evaluate the volume of your voice.
13 Adjust the microphone volume control (II) from 1 to 8 by first talking in the handset and then in the headset in each position.
When the person hears no difference whether you talk in the handset or headset, you have the correct setting. If the best
setting is 7 or 8, move the telephone termination switch (A-G) to G.
