Configuring and operating the Surround System
Dolby Digital and Dolby Surround:
Dolby Digital and Dolby Surround are special sound
recording procedures that were originally developed for
film. To be able to also use these spatial sound effects at
your home, video tapes, TV broadcasting, CDs and LDs
have been manufactured with this technology.
In contrast to Dolby Surround Pro Logic, stereo channels
are also used for both surround speakers in Dolby Digital.
When buying DVD videos CDs, video cassettes, LDS and
music CDs look out for the
logo. These logos mark all picture and sound me-
dia that contain recordings in Dolby-Pro-Logic Surround
and Dolby Digital quality.
VHS video cassettes that are only marked by the
logo do not contain the required information.

This system is for a 5.1 decoder with 5 different audible
sound channels (right forward, left forward, middle, right
rear left rear) plus 1 subwoofer.

Before being able to configure and tune your speaker sy-
stem, the 5.1 CH setting must be made in AUDIO MODE
(STEREO is set at the factory)

Select » / « 21 5.1 CH and confirm your selection with
»ENTER« 21. Press »SETUP« 20 to quit the menu.
Configuring the speaker system
Depending on whether all six speakers are connected at
the »SPEAKER« 55 terminals or the »WOOFER LINE
OUT« 51 connector, the corresponding channels must be
switched on or off in the SPEAKER SETUP PAGE. Before
changing the basic settings, check which corrections are
required based on the following table.

Note: When playing back sound on this system, the front
speakers must always be connected.
Turning on or off individual sound channels:
Switch on the device at the power switch »POWER« 6.
Switch to DVD mode by pressing the »DVD« 28 or
»SOURCE« 13 in DVD mode..
Press »SETUP« 20.The main menu appears on the
screen. Select SPEAKER SETUP using» « 21.
Call up the SPEAKER SETUP PAGE by pressing
SETUP MENU - - MAIN PAGE
