General
ISC equipment and components for prevention of falls from height meet or exceed recognised European,
American or other International standards. Activities involving the use of this type of equipment are
inherently dangerous. The diagrams illustrate only some of the possible correct and incorrect methods of
use. It is impossible to cover every eventuality relating to the use of this equipment. It is the users'
responsibility to read and understand these instructions before use. If this product is sold outside of the
original country of sale, it is the reseller's responsibility to supply this document in the language of
re-sale. It is mandatory that a Risk Assessment be carried out prior to any use and a rescue plan be in
place for any work at height. Always ensure that all components within a safety system are compatible
and allow the system to function safely. It is recommended that the viability of any installation should be
verified by a suitably qualified person. If there is any doubt about the compatibility of the products you
have chosen please consult the manufacturer. Do not exceed loads either specified by the manufacturer
or loads derived from the specified MBS using a recognised factor of safety. Do not modify or alter this
device in any way.
Use Requirements
It is the user's responsibility to ensure understanding of the correct safe use of this equipment, to use it
only for the purposes for which it is designed, and to practise all proper safety procedures. This equipment
should only be used by a competent person or a person specifically trained in its use who is under the
direct supervision of a competent person. If unsure, seek professional training from a fully qualified and
competent instructor prior to engaging in any activity. You are responsible for your own actions. These
instructions do not replace the need for professional training. This equipment should not be used by
persons with a medical condition(s) that may affect the safety of the user. Wet and icy conditions may
cause rope to become slippery. The manufacturer or distributor will not be held responsible for the
eventual damages, injuries or death resulting from an improper use of this equipment. This product is
meant for use as a fall arrest device (with a rescue facility on certain part numbers). It should not be used
for work positioning, man riding, or moving materials. In order for this product to function correctly, it
relies on the sudden and rapid deployment of the lanyard. This product must not be used where there is
unstable terrain - such as grain silos, shifting sand, powder or sludge etc. (Fig 9). The block should be
positioned such that the free movement of the system, and the fall path is unobstructed. Work as close
to directly below the anchorage point as is possible (maximum 30° from the vertical) to avoid swing-fall
injury (Fig 7). Extreme care should be taken when using this product near harmful chemicals, moving
machinery, electrical hazards and near sharp edges and abrasive surfaces (Fig 8).
Attachment
(Fig 13) The device can be connected to a reliable anchorage point (EN795, ANSI Z359.1), with a
minimum rating of 15kN, by using a connector (EN362) through the recommended attachment point in
the handle, or by a lanyard (EN354), a fibre-type sling or directly through the handle. The connector
situated at the end of the lanyard must be connected to the fall arrest point on the harness (Fig 4.).
ATTENTION – do not attach the lanyard of the fall arrester to any other point than that intended for the
purpose. The "D" back attachment point will allow the best positioning in the event of a fall (Fig 15).
Limitations of use
Maximum load: 140kg (Fig 5). Temperature range: CE compliance -40°c to 50°c, ANSI compliance -30°c
to 54°c (Fig 11). Placement: Device should be placed directly above user (Fig 6). Restrict horizontal travel
to 30° to reduce potential of pendulum effect (swing fall) (Fig 14).

(Fig 6) Ensure there is a minimum ground clearance of 2m. Never connect more than one person to the
device. (Fig 16) The lanyard must always be in tension – if the lanyard is 'slack' remove the unit from use
until it has been checked by a competent person, and signed off to be put back into service.
Inspection & Maintenance
Immediately before, during and after use make visual inspections of the product to ensure that it is in a
serviceable condition and is operating correctly. In addition to the basic visual inspections conducted by
the user, the product must be examined annually, or more frequently depending on local legislation or
intensity of use, by the manufacturer or a competent person authorised by the manufacturer. Other
things, such as, extreme temperatures, humidity, the effects of chemicals, rust, cuts, abrasions or the
frequency of use could affect the required service interval of the equipment. The details of the inspection
should be recorded in the product record card/section.
The product should be immediately withdrawn from use and not used again until confirmed in writing by
a competent person that it is safe to do so, should any doubt arise about its condition for safe use or, if it
has been used to arrest a fall. If repair or replacement of parts is required, it shall only be carried out by
the manufacturer or its recognised repair agent. Defective equipment should be destroyed to ensure it is
not used as safety equipment. Inspect the lanyard condition, function and condition of fasteners, and
legibility of labels. Check lanyard retraction by pulling out a minimum of 4ft of the lanyard and allowing it
to retract under light tension. The lanyard should retract completely. Pull sharply to test locking function,
brakes must engage (Fig 1). Pull out the entire length of lanyard and inspect for any defects, damage or
missing parts (Fig 2). Inspect the karabiner body, gate mechanism and hinge visually for damage or
malfunction and marking legibility.
Ensure that all moving parts do move correctly especially any locking mechanisms. To check the gate
mechanism action, open the gate fully then release. The action should be smooth and the gate should
fully self-close and self-lock (unless it is a manually locking screwgate). Where the connector incorporates
a swivel eye there should be no more than 3mm gap between the eye and the body. (Fig 17) The
connector has an indicator built in which shows as a RED sleeve if the device has been used to arrest a
fall. In these circumstances the device should be taken out of service for maintenance and repair. It is
recommended that the retractable lanyard assembly be replaced no later than five years from the date of
the original purchase.

Housing: Aluminium – powder coated.
Lanyard: 5mm (6x19) galvanised steel or 5mm (7x19) stainless steel.
Webbing: Nylon 25 x 1.8mm.
Hand grip: Rubber.
Handle: Aluminium – anodised.
Karabiner: EN362:04 or ANSI z359.12 compliant.
Lifespan
Please be aware that exposure to chemicals, extreme temperatures, sharp edges, major fall or load, etc.
can significantly reduce the lifetime of a product, to as little as a single use. The potential lifetime of ISC
products is up to 10 years for plastic or textile products, and indefinite for metal products. The actual
lifetime of a product depends on a variety of factors such as, the intensity of use, the frequency of use,
the environment in which it has been used (humidity, salt, sand, moisture, etc), the competency of the
user, and how well it has been maintained and stored etc.
