Example: The following example shows extensive QoS settings.
The device consists of a total bandwidth at the WAN side (SHDSL) of 22 Mbps. The physical
LAN ports 1 and 2 are routed via the internal CPU ports (User, CPU). The LAN ports 3 and 4
are directly connected (switched) to the WAN port.
Note
Please consider that all switch ports having a bandwidth of 100 Mbps. Therefor
the throughput to the WAN (SHDSL) port is as well 100 Mbps and first limited
by the SHDSL bandwidth.
The internal data traffic of the management is a fixed bandwidth of 1 Mbps assigned. The
outgoing (egress) traffic is assigned to queue 3 with the highest priority class via the Applica-
tion QoS rule. In the example http traffic of TCP port 8080 is used.
A special application (e.g. ERP software, VPN etc.) using LAN port 1 or 2 can use a strict
bandwidth of 1 Mbps if it's using the TCP port 30000. The data are assigned to queue 1
(normal priority).
Furthermore the LAN ports 1 and 2 are set to a data rate (up-/downstream) of 6 Mbps for data
without any prioritization (like e-mail, Internet data).
LAN port 3 is set to 10 Mbps downstream and 5 Mbps upstream with priority normal (queue
1). An assignment at LAN port 2 is only required, if high UDP data traffic is expected. Oth-
erwise the traffic limitation at the WAN port is sufficient.
LAN port 4 is set to 2 Mbps symmetric with a high priority, therefore queue 2 (e.g. VoIP
PBX).
