SNMP
Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) supports the exchange of messages between
a network management client and an agent centralizing the management of network elements.
The messages consist of "requests" setting ("set") variables and getting ("get") variables,
which are available at the network elements. It can be used to retrieve statistics, to set confi-
guration parameters and to monitor events within the network. SNMP can communicate via
WAN, only. The BIG 10 can create so-called SNMP traps to indicate alarm states. The
BIG 10 also has a SNMP agent for the device network management. The central site requires
a MIB browser supporting SNMP versions v1/v2/v3.
3.7.1 Basic Setup
Exporting BIG 10 functions to the MIB Browser requires activating and setting SNMP server
configurations.
3.7.2 SNMPv3 Setup
The BIG 10 provides security upon SNMP access by means of SNMPv3. You can enable
SNMPv3 and configure it in such a way that the users will have authorized access to the
SNMP data.

Switch
The LAN switch of the BIG 10 can be configured in this chapter. The switch functionality is
determined by inner and outer ports. The following image shows the port assignment:
