2.2. Operating principle and air curtain

Remotely installed refrigerated display cabinets operate on much the same principle as normal household
refrigerators. The main difference is that the machinery taking care of compressing and feeding cold
refrigerant to the cabinets is at another location instead of part of the cabinet itself. In addition, air inside the
cabinet is kept in motion in order to form an air curtain, which helps to reduce heat loss.
1. Cold refrigerant is fed into the cabinet's evaporator.
2. Evaporator fans draw in air, which is lead across the evaporator fins.
3. The refrigerant running in the evaporator coils absorbs heat energy from the air, cooling it down.
4. The cool air is then lead into the cabinet's air duct behind the back plates. Some air emerges
through holes in the back plates, keeping the cabinet interior temperature within the set temperature
range, while the rest of the air is used to form an air curtain in front of the shelves.
5. At the top of the cabinet, air is lead through the honey combs. The honey combs direct air
downwards to form a vertical air curtain in front of the shelves. This air curtain helps to reduce heat
loss by preventing warm air from mixing with the cool air in the cabinet. The effect is greatest in open
cabinets, but is helpful even in closed cabinets.
6. Some of the cool air together with some warmer air from around the cabinet is drawn back in through
the suction grid. The air is directed across the evaporator fins again, so a continuous curtain of cool
air is running in front of the cabinet shelves.

2.3. Electrical connection box

The electrical connection box is on the cabinet roof on the left-hand side. Depending on the selected options
during product order, it may also house the control unit. The electrical wiring diagram is also included in the
box.

2.4. Control unit

TectoDeck MD5 is equipped with a control unit that automates the running of the cabinet. Depending on the
selected options during product order, the control unit is either on the cabinet roof on the left-hand side or
inside the electrical connection box.
