PRODUCT DESCRIPTION AND
2
INTENDED USE
"MAX" is a line of Nice s.p.a. tubular motors, designed to
automate the movements of roller shutters, awnings and
sun screens. TO-MAX A is the electronic element of this
line that controls the limit switches and the movement of
the 'motor-driven mechanism'.
Any use other than as specified herein is to be con-
sidered improper and is strictly prohibited! Any other
use is considered improper and strictly prohibited!
The manufacturer denies all liability for damage
deriving from improper use of the product and use
other than as specified in this manual.
"MAX" is a range of Nice tubular motors, designed for
the automation of rolling shutters, sun awnings and sun
screens. These modules are divided into two categories
(fig. 3); that of the motor-casing, related to the motor
only, and that of the electronic head, related to the com-
ponent that powers and controls the "motor-driven" me -
chanism.
The tubular motor, which is obtained through the assem-
bly of these two components (electronic head + motor
casing), is installed inside the roller of the roller shut -
ter/awning and is secured to the wall by means of a
"snap connection" between the outer face of To-Max A
and a special support bracket.
Thanks to its built-in devices (control unit and Encoder
technology), To-Max A electronic head can move the
rolling shutter/awning both up and down and control the
intermediate positions. In particular, the encoder guaran-
tees a precise and reliable electronic control of all limit
switches and roller shutter/awning movements.
The tubular motor is connected to the electrical mains
and a wall-mounted switch (not included in the pack) to
enable control of the Up and Down movements of the
shutter. The travel limits for these 2 manoeuvres can be
programmed using one of 3 procedures available, de -
pending on the type of shutter to be automated.
To-Max A is equipped with a safety system named
"Obstacle detection" which is activated when shutter
travel, either Up or Down, is blocked inadvertently by an
obstacle (object, person etc.) or excessive friction (forma-
tion of ice, expansion of materials etc.). In these situa-
tions, the control unit stops the manoeuvre immediately
and activates a brief inversion of movement.
To-Max A is available in various versions, each designed
to manage a specific motor torque (power).

PRODUCT INSTALLATION

3.1 - PRELIMINARY CHECKS FOR
INSTALLATION
Limits of use
Caution! – Check the integrity of the product's com-
ponents, the adequacy of the chosen model and the
suitability of the location where the installation is to
be made before starting installation.
To-Max A is available in various versions, each de -
signed to manage a specific motor torque (power).
Therefore check that the maximum torque admis-
sible on your To-Max A includes that of the specif-
ic "Max-Motor" to be installed.
• By comparing the technical characteristics of the prod-
uct (nominal torque, rotation speed and operating time
indicated on the product) with the environmental and
particular restrictions of the roller shutter/awning, cho -
ose one of the "Max-Motor" models suitable for the
type of roller shutter/awning involved.
• Assess the following restrictions before fitting the tubu-
lar motor inside the roller of the roller shutter/awning:
– for motors with a torque of up to 35 Nm (inclusive),
the minimum internal diameter of the roller must be at
least 52 mm;
– for motors with a torque of over 35 Nm, the minimum
internal diameter of the roller must be at least 60 mm.
• Make sure there is sufficient space in front of the
awning for it to be fully opened before installing it.
• Do not install a motor with a torque capacity greater
than that required.
• Protect the system against atmospheric agents.
3.2 - INSTALLING THE AUTOMATION
COMPONENTS
• Installing To-Max A and the tubular motor
To assemble and install the tubular motor, refer to fig. 5.
In particular, in phase "a" of fig. 5 use a screw type HI-
LO, 4 x 8 UNI 9707, without tip. Warning! – apart from
being a source of danger, using the incorrect screw
could also permanently damage the head.
Caution!
- Incorrect installation can lead to serious injury.
- Before assembly, ensure that there are no pieces of
polystyrene or other materials inside the tube of the
motor.
- The power supply must be fitted with a device that
enables the tubular motor to be disconnected from the
mains. The device must have an opening distance bet -
ween contacts that allows complete disconnection in
the conditions envisaged by overvoltage category III in
ac cordance with the rules of installation. This device is
not supplied with the product.
- If the power cable is damaged, the product cannot be
used as the cable cannot be replaced. Therefore con-
tact the Nice Technical Assistance.
• Fitting the wall-mounted control switch
Install a control switch on the wall, taking care to observe
the following:
– position the switch in a location visible from the shutter
but far from moving parts.
– position the switch to the side of the shutter, in the
same location as the electric cable of the tubular motor
and the power cable connected to the mains.
– position the switch at a minimum height of 1.5 m from
the ground.
