Handling
The measuring surface is strongly magnetic. Impacts against the measuring surface
may occur if there are metallic objects close to the MiniCODER. This contact may
damage the sensor elements and result in the failure of the measuring system.
Only remove the MiniCODER from the packaging immediately prior to mounting.
Avoid impacts against the measuring surface by other objects.
Pay attention to the mounting sequence.
3.4
Target wheel
Handle the target wheel with the necessary care to avoid damage to the teeth.
Mechanical inaccuracies in the tooth period, the tooth shape and the circularity can
degrade the measuring accuracy.
Only use the tooth wheel as a measuring scale so that the teeth do not wear.
The reference mark can produce an imbalance that can cause increased vibration at
critical high rotational speeds.
If you manufacture the target wheel yourself, compensate for the imbalance by
attaching counter weights or making balancing bores in the target wheel.
At high rotational speeds with a large target wheel there are high centrifugal forces
acting on the outer gear rim. Additional vibration occurs in the machine. The rotation-
al speed at which vibration critical for the target wheel could occur is dependent on
the size and module of the target wheel and the situation on the machine.
Make sure the target wheel maintains the permitted air gap tolerances
in the rotational speed range used. Take into account any high spots.
Make sure the target wheel does not reach the critical rotational speed.
3.5
Measuring system
3.5.1
Contamination
An accumulation of ferromagnetic material between the measuring surface and the
teeth on the measuring scale can make it impossible for the MiniCODER to unam-
biguously detect the change from tooth to gap between teeth.
Regularly check the MiniCODER for contamination and clean it if necessary.
