Operating and assembly instructions HRD FU-ATEX
• The connecting cables must be as short as possible and
installed, where possible, without intermediate terminal
points and without plug devices.
• The motor and PTC evaluation cables between motor and
EN
frequency converter output must be shielded, dimensi-
oned in accordance with current specifi cations and
connected. In particular, ensure that the electrical connec-
tion is correct with regard to electromagnetic compatibility
(EMC) with continuous cable shielding from the frequency
converter to the motor terminal box.
• At the motor terminal box, the braid must have a
conductive connection with low ohmic resistance with
suitable ATEX EMC screwed cable glands. Open shields
with poor contacting may cause voltage build-up and, in
worst cases, sparking.
• The braid must be routed in the control cabinet, where
possible, without intermediate terminals or plug devices
directly to the frequency converter and connected here
permanently and with low ohmic resistance to the PE
conductor system.
• The safety, operating and maintenance instructions
provided by the frequency converter supplier, and the
specifi cations in the application manuals, must be obser-
ved in all circumstances.
• The limit data for converter operation is stamped on the
nameplate of the motors with pressure-proof
encapsulation.
Further information is available in the motor documentation.
At the converter, the voltage/frequency assignment
must be set according to the diagram.

• Never set a higher frequency (speed) at the converter
than the max. frequency f
16
Otherwise the motor can be overloaded or the blower
can be destroyed due to the excessive speed of the
blower impeller.
• At the converter, ensure that operation below 35 Hz is
not possible.
• No specifi c boost should be permitted to occur in the lower
frequency range because the winding can overheat if the
cooling capacity of the fan blade is reduced.
• Be sure to observe the instructions in the application
manuals of the manufacturer of the frequency converter.
Open shields may cause voltage build-up and, in worst
cases, sparking.
• Ambient temperature of the motor/blower minimum -20 °C
and maximum +40 °C. Under no circumstances should
the ambient temperature be beyond this range during
standstill or operation.
• Avoid aggressive ambient conditions, high air humidity or
strong temperature fl uctuations which may lead to
condensation forming on the motor/blower
• Installation of blower only indoors; outdoor installation
requires suitable protective roofs. The permissible
temperature range must never be exceeded.
• The ventilation system of the drive motor must not be
impaired by the installation conditions. The distance of the

fan hood of the drive motor to other plant components
must reach a minimum of half of the diameter of the fan
hood opening.
• Installation of the blower, which results in vertical orientati-
on of the motor axis, is not allowed for frequency-
controlled motors of the ATEX blowers!

Checking the direction of rotation
Switch on the blower. The running direction of the impeller
should correspond to the direction arrow on the housing.
If the impeller rotates in the wrong direction, then interchange
L1 and L3.
3.5 Additional terminals
Connection diagrams for all circuits are provided in the ter-
minal boxes of the motors upon delivery. This also applies
to thermal winding protection.
4 INSTRUCTIONS FOR OPERATION
AND USE
4.1 Basic information
Please observe the notes on designated use in section 1.1,
as well as the safety guidelines in sections 1.2 to 1.10.
If electrical current drops below the rated current of the drive
motor during operation, check to see if the mains voltage and
frequency match the appliance ratings (motor nameplate).
After protective shutdowns, e.g. tripping of the motor circuit-
breaker, activation of the PTC evaluation unit by motors with
a PTC resistor sensor, or after a protective shutdown of the
frequency converter during FC applications, the appliance
must not be restarted until the problem has been trouble-
shooted.
If the blower cannot be operated over the whole range of the
characteristic curve, the motor may overload if the system
resistance is too low (excessive current consumption). The
volumetric air fl ow should be reduced in this case by means
of a throttle valve fi tted on the intake or discharge side.
The blower must not be subjected to vibration or impact
loads.

4.2 Frequency converter operation

A frequency converter is used, allowing a wide range of speed
adjustments. There is only a small, load-related difference in
rpm between idle state and the max. load of the blowers and
the lateral channel blower. Setting work that requires inter-
vention in the converter parameters (e.g. speed adjustment)
must be carried out (and documented) by qualifi ed techni-
cians because incorrect values in a few critical converter pa-
rameters (e.g. the cut-off frequency of the converter output
characteristic curve) can result in increased power consump-
tion, overheating, winding damage and/or malfunction of the
ATEX application.
