B 3 Time interval measurement
Time interval measurement, as described above, measures and displays the time diffe-
rence between two signals. Ideally, the resulting differences (and thus the significance
of the display values) are small if both signals (A and B) are of approximately the same
frequency (a difference of up to a few Hz). The larger the difference in frequency bet-
ween the two measurement signals, the more inaccurate the measurement.
For time interval measurement, do as follows:
• Connect the specified signal lines to the counter input and measurement circuit
(generator, oscillator, etc.)
• Set the function switch to A=>B.
• Time interval measurement now starts from the first slope of the measurement
signal of channel A and stops at the first flank of the measurement signal of
channel B. The time difference between the two signals (i.e. interval) is display-
ed in a sub-unit of „s" (i.e. second), i.e. ns or us or ms or s.
• Via gate time, set signal resolution (number of digits).
• Time interval is displayed, as briefly described above.
• Pressing the hold button freezes the current measurement and the measure-
ment value displayed until the hold function is deactivated.

B 4 Ratio measurement A/B

In this measurement, the measurement at input A is expressed as a ratio to input B,
i.e. channel A is divided by channel B.
This is what you do:
• Connect the specified signal lines to the counter input and measurement circuit
(generator, oscillator, etc.)
• Set the function switch to A / B.
• Via gate time, set signal resolution (number of digits).
• If a measurement signal is present at both channels, the ratio of the two is dis-
played.
E.g.: If a signal of 100 kHz (from a function generator) is present at channel A,
and the same frequency is present at channel B, the display will show „1" or
„1.0000000" if the two frequencies are absolutely identical.
• Pressing the hold button freezes the current measurement and the measure-
ment value displayed until the hold function is deactivated.

B 5 Difference measurement
In this measurement, channel B is subtracted from channel A and the difference dis-
played in the corresponding unit. To measure signal differences, do as follows:
• Connect the specified signal lines to the counter input and measurement circuit
(generator, oscillator, etc.)
• Set the function switch to A - B.
• Via gate time, set signal resolution (number of digits).
• When a measurement signal is present at both channels, the difference A-B is
displayed.
E.g.: If a signal of 100 kHz (from a function generator) is present at channel A,
and the same frequency is present at channel B, the display will show „0"
or „0.0000000" if the two frequencies are absolutely identical.
• Pressing the hold button freezes the current measurement and the measure-
ment value displayed until the hold function is deactivated.
B 6 Addition measurement
In this measurement, inputs A and B are added together/summed and the total dis-
played in the corresponding unit. To measure signal sum, do as follows:
• Connect the specified signal lines to the counter input and measurement circuit
(generator, oscillator, etc.)
• Set the function switch to A + B.
• Via gate time, set signal resolution (number of digits).
• When a measurement signal is present at both channels, the sum A + B is dis-
played.
E.g.: If a signal of 100 kHz (from a function generator) is present at channel A,
and the same frequency is present at channel B, the display will show
„200 kHz" if the two frequencies are absolutely identical.
• Pressing the hold button freezes the current measurement and the measure-
ment value displayed until the hold function is deactivated.
B 7 Pulse counter (TOTAL)
If you wish to count clock pulses of electronic circuits, select this operating mode.
Max. input frequency is 100 MHz. Max. resolution, or the max. display value is
99.999.999 pulses. If this number of pulses is exceeded, the display shows -OVER-
, i.e. overflow. This is how you set the frequency counter:
