General

The digital amplifier VKIA405 is designed for parallel connection of up to 4 load
cells. The analog transducer signal from the load cells are first amplified and
filtered by the integrated electronics and then converted to a digital value in the
analog/digital converter. The digitized measurement signal is conditioned in the
microprocessor. The conditioned signal is forwarded to a computer via the serial
RS 485 2-wire interface. All the parameters can be stored power fail safe in the
EEPROM.
The amplifier is delivered ex factory with a basic calibration. The commands
LDW / LWT and NOV are used to adapt the application. In normal cases,
adjustment is implemented with the aid of weights on the complete scale
structure. Alternatively, adjustment with calculated values is possible when the
application parameters are known (e.g. when setting up several identical
scales). This procedure is described in
(terminal "OUT", see
command LIV is used to make the settings. All commands can be found on
the system CD, Order No. 1-AD104/5-DOC.
The required power supply for the device is an extra-low voltage (12...30 V) with
safe disconnection from the mains.
• When connecting additional devices, comply with the safety requirements.
• Do not exceed maximum voltage levels when connecting external controls
to the process output of the VKIA.
• The ground connections of the power supply, the process output and the
interface are interconnected in the device. If the potentials of the devices to
be connected are different, suitable steps must be taken to isolate the
signals (e.g. using an optocoupler).
• Shielded cables must be used for all connections apart from the supply
voltage (see note below). The shield must be connected extensively to
ground on both sides.
• The use of unshielded cables for the voltage supply is only permissible for
cables with a maximum length of 30 m, laid inside buildings. If cables are
longer or are installed outside buildings, shielded cables must be used (as
per EN 61326-1).
• Connection to a wide-ranging supply network is not permitted as this often
causes interfering voltage peaks to be coupled into the electronics. Instead,
a local supply must be provided for the VKIA 405 (even when grouped).
The terminal boxes also allow the shield to be connected conventionally by
means of the shield strands. With this method, EMC-proofing as per EN 45 501
is restricted, which can lead to measurement errors when there are
electromagnetic interference fields.
