instrument that is controlled by a microprocessor displays the cur-
rent measured value during the measurement in a 5-digit LCD with
quartz precision in RPM (rotation per minute). During the measure-
ment, the maximum and minimum, and the last r.p.m. are being
recorded. Due to the concentrated light beam of the extremely
bright LED and due to the good reflective properties of the adhesi-
ve tag, precise measurements become possible even under diffi-
cult conditions.

Commissioning
Before putting the instrument into operation, please check with the
Safety Instructions, the Technical Data and the Prescribed Use.
that the Manual R.P.M. Counter DT-1 Opto is suitable for the mea-
surements you are planning
Inserting/Replacing the Batteries
Before the first use and when the battery symbol appears in the
display you must insert four new 1.5 V mignon batteries (alkaline if
possible). Proceed as follows:
Open the grooved cover of the battery compartment at the back of
the Manual R.P.M. Counter and slide the cover downwards to open
it. Remove the low batteries. Make sure you insert the batteries in
the right way (correct polarity). A false polarity can destroy the bat-
teries and/or the instrument! If necessary you can check the cor-
rect polarity on the bottom plate of the battery compartment. Now

slide on the cover again until it locks. Never operate the Manual
R.P.M. Counter when it is opened and not with any other power
supply.
Warning!
While replacing batteries and closing the battery com-
partment, make sure that you do not activate the ope-
ration button unintentionally. You could blind yourself,
other people or animals.
Do not leave used batteries in the measuring instru-
ment, since even leakage-protected batteries can cor-
rode releasing chemical agents that might harm your
health or destroy the battery compartment. If you do
not intend to use the instrument for a certain time,
remove the batteries. Never try to recharge ordinary
batteries, do not throw batteries into fire. Danger of
explosion.
Preparing the Measurement
Before the measurement an adhesive reflective tag must be placed
on the object you want to measure. Cut a piece off the enclosed
strip and stick it onto the shaft or wheel etc. If necessary, clean the
surface with a suitable cleansing agent before applying the adhesi-
ve tag.
Warning!
Rotating parts must stand absolutely still and be secu-
red against unintentional switching, before you can
apply the adhesive reflective tags. Make sure there is a
good light/dark contrast. If necessary, blacken the
object to be measured around the reflective tag.
