Pull the mains plug if the equipment is not to be
used for a lengthy period or before carrying out
setting and servicing work.
6.2 Setting the speed (Fig. 21 – 22)
The speed can be infinitely adjusted on the speed
controller (1).
The speed range can be selected using the speed
selector (32).
Speed selector in "Hare" position (high speed):
Speed: 0 - 2,500 rpm
Speed selector in "Tortoise" position (low speed):
Speed: 0-1,100 rpm
6.3 Cooling
Frictional heat is generated on the blade of the turning
tool during turning. To increase the service life of the
turning tool and improve cutting results, you should
cool the turning tool during use. Use the supplied oil
bottle (42) and a water-soluble, environmentally
friendly drilling emulsion for this purpose.
6.4 Turning
6.4.1 General
Secure the turning tool in the tool holder (23) (see
n
point 5.6).
Clamp the workpiece securely and as far as
n
possible in the three-jaw chuck (27).
Check that the workpiece runs true.
n
Ensure that the feed is deactivated (unless you
n
wish to carry out thread turning).
Switch on the equipment (see point 6.1).
n
6.4.2 Longitudinal turning (Fig. 1, 23 - 24)
For longitudinal turning, the turning tool moves
parallel to the workpiece axis.
For longitudinal turning from right to left, first turn
n
the table slide (5) with the crank handle for
longitudinal feed (4) anti-clockwise and the cross
slide (7) with the crank for hand feed (12)
clockwise until the travel distance of the cross
slide (7) is sufficient for the entire machining
length.
Set the feed direction lever (30) to position 2,
n
deactivate the feed device and lock the table slide
(5) with the feed locking lever (10).
Move the compound slide (6) by turning the crank
n
for transverse feed (8) back until the turning tool
does not touch the circumference of the
workpiece.
Now set the cross slide (7) with the crank for hand
n
feed (12) so that the tip of the turning tool is
above the largest diameter of the workpiece.
Now move the compound slide (6) slowly towards
n
the workpiece by turning the crank for transverse
feed (8) until the turning tool just touches the
surface of the workpiece.
This is now the starting position for machining the
n
external diameter of your workpiece. One division
on the scale on the crank for transverse feed (8)
corresponds to a 0.05 mm workpiece diameter
(0.025 mm cutting depth).
Important:
Ensure that the feed direction lever (30) is set to
position 2 and the feed device is deactivated before
you switch on the equipment (see point 5.7.1).
6.4.3 Transverse turning (Fig. 1, 25)
The procedure for transverse turning is similar to that
for longitudinal turning. For transverse turning, the
turning tool moves towards the center of the
workpiece axis.
For transverse turning the main blade of the turning
tool must be set precisely to the center of the
workpiece so that no shoulder can be left in the
center of the workpiece. Set the turning tool using the
centering tip (21).
For transverse turning with a bent turning tool or face
turning tool, the workpiece is turned from outside to
inside, for transverse turning with the corner turning
tool or the side turning tool, on the other hand, it is
turned from inside to outside.
6.4.4 Internal turning
The internal turning of bore holes is carried out in a
similar way to transverse and longitudinal turning.
Since the turning tool cannot generally be seen during
the turning process, special care is required.
A drill bit can be clamped instead of the centering tip
(21) for internal turning to predrill the workpiece (see
point 5.9).
