ADJUSTING AND REPLACING A V-BELT
It is important that the V-belt runs straight and smoothly to ensure correct operation. If a pulley is
not operating correctly, it may be necessary to adjust the pulleys on the side. This is also necessary
when replacing a pulley.
1. Remove the pulley shield to see and work on the pulleys
and V-belts.
2. The pulleys are mounted on the shaft with a taper lock
constructed of a two-part conical bushing which holds the
pulley in place and makes it possible to adjust the wheel on
the side of the shaft at the same time.
The taper lock is held together by 6 or 8 bolts (depending on
the model). The taper lock also has 3 (or 4) holes which are
empty.
Unscrewing all bolts and screwing them into the empty
holes instead forces the conical outer section out of the
taper lock, thus releasing the pulley from the shaft.
3. Similarly, it is also possible to adjust and tighten the pulley
on the side of the shaft using the taper lock so that the V-
belts run as straight and smoothly on the pulley as possible.
If they don't, the V-belts will wear out and ultimately break.
4. Once the V-belt is running straight and smoothly on the
pulley, reattach all nuts in parallel and stepwise to lock the
taper lock, and thus the pulley, to the shaft. Make sure that
the V-belt still operates correctly.
To tighten the taper lock, gradually tighten the bolts around in a
ring several times until all bolts are tightened.
