Patek Philippe's World Time watches launched
in the 1930s are cult models for travelers and col-
lectors of fine mechanical watches. They feature an
innovative mechanism that simultaneously displays
local time (by means of the central hands) and the
time in all of the world's 24 time zones (by means
of two mobile disks located on the dial rim). Despite
the complexity of their ultra-thin self-winding
240 HU or 240 HU C caliber, these timepieces are
distinguished by their exemplary user-friendliness
and readability. The outer disk displays the names
of 24 cities representing the 24 time zones. The
local time corresponds to the time zone (city name)
displayed on the city disk at 12 o'clock. When trav-
eling, to correct all the displays (local time hand,
24-hour disk and city disk) at once and in one-hour
increments, simply press the selector-pusher inte-
grated into the side of the caseband at 10 o'clock.
Thanks to an ingenious patented coupling mech-
anism system, these changes have no influence
on the minutes hand, which continues to display
the time with the superior precision required by
the Patek Philippe Seal. The models equipped
with Caliber 240 HU C are also distinguished by
their date indication synchronized with local time
– a patented world first.
