output by installing the SM-TF130-DI module. If we assign a boiler sensor
to the second sensor input in the controller, the input in the SM-TF130-DI
module automatically becomes the input to pipe sensor 2. If we assign a
second pipe sensor to the second sensor input in the controller, the input
in the SM-TF130-DI module automatically becomes the input to boiler
sensor.
Modbus connection
The Elexant 550c-Modbus can be connected to a Building Management
System (BMS) by using MONI-RS485-WIRE (PCN 549097-000) shielded,
twisted 2-core cable (max. 1000 m) for the connection master/slave and
BMS.
Optional module
SM-TF130-DI is an external module for the additional sensor input in
combination with NTC-SENSOR-10M and for the panel alarm digital input.
3. OPERATION
If Elexant 550c-Modbus is not programmed, the unit will start the intuitive
quickstart menu after powering up. Modbus register map for Elexant
550c-Modbus can be downloaded from www.nVent.com/RAYCHEM.
The Elexant 550c-Modbus control unit combines the following features:
The operating temperature of the heating cable can be limited to a
desired temperature. Combined with the integrated "power off" timer
function, this offers important energy savings.
On big warm water systems it is sufficient to programm one Elexant
550c-Modbus unit in a nVent RAYCHEM SBS panel to manage multiple
heating circuits. The Elexant 550c-Modbus controller can be delivered
in different prefabricated panels, depending on the quantity of heating
circuits (3, 6, 9).
An alarm terminal with SM-TF130-DI module (to be ordered separately)
makes remote reading of errors possible.
The permanent monitoring of the boiler temperature is a smart energy-
saving function that can be used optionally when the external boiler
sensor is connected. If the boiler temperature is too low, the Elexant
550c-Modbus is switching off the heating cable to prevent the water in
the pipes from being heated up by the HWAT heating cable.
Activate/deactivate the connected boiler sensor by pressing ON/OFF.
The actual boiler temperature is shown in the main display at the bottom
right.
If the boiler temperature value flashes on the display, the "Follow
boiler temperature" function is active. This happens when the actual
temperature reading of the boiler sensor is below the set maintenance
temperature of the heating cable for more than 24 hours. Example: boiler
temperature: 50°C / maintenance temperature: 55°C
The maintenance temperature of the heating cable is also reduced
together with the lowered boiler temperature but not more than
5 K. Example: scheduled maintenance temperature: 55°C / boiler
temperature: 48°C / used maintenance temperature: 50°C
If the boiler temperature drops to the set boiler cut-off temperature, the
heating cable will be switched off and an error message <E:4.1: Boiler
temperature too low> is displayed. If the actual temperature reading
of the boiler sensor reaches the setpoint maintenance temperature
according to the schedule, the function "Follow boiler temperature" will
be switched off immediately and the 24-hour delay timer will be reset.
Note: The pre-programming of the controller can be done with an
external power-bank e.g. nVent RAYCHEM-PB-POWERBANK (PCN 1244-
020365) in case there is no power supply on site during controller / panel
installation.
