nVent RAYCHEM Elexant 550c-Modbus (PCN 2000004288) is an
electronic controller with colour touch display, advanced alarms and the
IT
capability of switching 1 (standard operation) or 2 (2nd heating zone:
optional) independent heating zones via external contactors.
The unit is to be mounted in DIN-rail panels for hot water maintenance
applications of nVent RAYCHEM HWAT-R, HWAT-M and HWAT-L. The hot
water temperature maintenance system is a comfort system providing
instant hot water at the tap. A self-regulating heating cable is positioned
on the pipe and compensates for any temperature loss of the warm
water.
Heating cables can be controlled (switched ON/OFF) via suitably rated
contactors.
The Elexant 550c-Modbus allows Modbus connectivity for remote
monitoring, configuration, and integration in a Building Management
System (BMS).
2. INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
Installation and all wiring must be in accordance with applicable
regulations. The device must be installed in non-hazardous areas only.
Electrical connections are to be made by qualified electricians.
Attention: mistakes made when connecting the control unit can cause
damage to the control unit and the sensors. nVent is not liable for any
damage caused by faulty connection and/or incorrect handling.
Before working on the device, switch off the power supply.
The device may only be connected and serviced by authorised,

The device is designed to be connected to fixed cables only.
When installing the device, make sure that high-voltage cables, such
as power supply cables, heating cables and cold leads do not come
into contact with low-voltage cables such as sensor cables.
Local standards for electrical installation must be observed.
If the device does not work, please first check all connections and the
main power supply.
2.1 Mounting of the enclosure
This control unit must be installed in an electrical panel and snapped
onto a DIN rail (DIN EN 50022-35). nVent provides a wide range of panels
as standard or tailor-made products.
2.2 Sensor installation
Optional boiler sensor (fig. D1) and pipe line sensor (fig. D2) position
A pipe sensor (to be ordered separately) can be installed as reference
point to track and monitor pipe temperature in a large hot water
distribution network but the unit can operate without need to install
any sensor (boiler or pipe). Pipe sensor (pipe sensor 1) is fixed in the
software and needs to be installed on the terminals 13-14. Sensor cable
extension is possible up to 100 m, cross section cable: 2 x 1.5 mm^2.
The unit also supports the pipe temperature tracking of the second
