Tank locomotive T3 – H0
Locomotive-tender T3 – H0
Operating Instructions
In 1891, Krauss / Munich supplied the first of eight machines to
the Kingdom of Württemberg. By the year 1913, this number
should increase to a total of 110 tank locomotives, in the mean
time constructed by the "Maschinenfabrik Esslingen" (ME),
the "Maschinenbaugesellschaft Heilbronn" (MBGH) and the
"Königliche Lokomotivwerkstätte" in Esslingen (WE). The small,
tough machines were very versatile. Originally destined to be
used for shunting purposes in large railway stations, they soon
also operated on secondary lines. On the Geislinger Steige they
were used as pusher locomotives, due to the large weights to be
pulled mostly in pairs.
At the end of the thirties, the T3 was placed out of service by the
"Reichsbahn"; three specimen of this series were still briefly used
by the DB. However, that was no reason to scrap the reliable
steam locomotives. During the sixties, many of these machines
delivered considerable performances at industrial or works
railways. The Brawa-model of the T3 was modelled on the
locomotive 89 343 of the "Deutsche Reichsbahn", constructed
in 1901 by the "Maschinenfabrik Esslingen" as 3158. The model
depicts the early times of the German State Railways when the
locomotive to a large degree still corresponded to the regional
railway design.
