9.2 Diagnosing and fixing short circuits in the IML Spider charging system
Warning:
- Power must be switched off when working on the equipment.
- Work on the equipment should only be performed by a skilled electrician.
-
Always turn off the high voltage generator when connecting and disconnecting the
components.
-
Disconnect the components of the IML Spider charging system from the generator.
-
Switch on the high voltage generator and check whether the overload indicator of the
generator is off.
-
One by one, connect the components of the IML Spider charging system to the generator
again. With each component, check whether the overload indicator of the generator remains
off.
-
When the overload indicator flashes on after connecting a component, switch the high
voltage generator off.
-
Disconnect the last component connected and replace it. See list of spare parts.

Possible cause
High voltage generator not switched on
High voltage generator failure
Interruption in power connection
Voltage too low
Too much distance between charging
electrode and material
Charging Electrode contaminated
Charging Electrode worn
Dummy Core contaminated
Voltage too high
IML Spider Electrode not connected to a
ø4mm resistor fitted connector
Not enough distance between Charging
Electrode and material
No label or one that is too small
between electrodes and earth
IML Spider (Head) damaged
Short in IML Spider charging system
Solution
Switch on high voltage generator
Replace the high voltage generator
Repair the high voltage connection
Set voltage higher
Set the charging electrode closer to
the material
Clean the Charging Electrode
Replace the Charging Electrode
Clean the Dummy Core
Reduce the voltage
Choose an IML Spider output with
ø4mm connector
Set the Charging Electrode further
from the material
Ensure the presence of an
appropriate size label
Replace the IML Spider or IML Spider
Head
Find and fix short circuit
