STOP button: Press to stop the tape. The tape will first
unload and then the recorder will enter the Stop mode.
e
REW button: Press to rewind the tape. While the tape is
being rewound, the REW LED will remain lit. This button
can be pressed in any mode except Record or Audio
Dub. Pressing this button in the Play or Search mode
enables high-speed playback at about 9 times normal
speed in the reverse direction. During search the PLAY
and REW LEDs will remain lit. To release the Rewind
mode, press the button corresponding to the mode you
wish to engage
next (except REC, EJECT and AUD
DUB).
@ Tape counter/Menu display
Shows
tape time
in hours, minutes
and seconds
by
counting CTL pulses. This tape counter does not function
when CTL pulses are not present. Also displays warning
codes. When the MENU button is pressed, the remaining
tape time and the Menu display are shown.
@® Full Repeat indicator
Lights when the Full Repeat mode is selected with the
AUTO MODE button @.
@ Segment Repeat indicator
Lights when the Segment Repeat mode is selected with the
AUTO MODE button @.
@® Counter Search indicator
Lights when the Counter Search mode is selected with the
AUTO MODE button @.
@ COUNTER RESET button
Press to reset the tape counter to zero. Also used to
cancel the IN and OUT points.
@ AUTO MODE button
To select one of the following automatic operations.
Full Repeat:
For repeat playback from the beginning
to end of the tape.
For repeat playback between specified
IN and OUT points which can be entered
using the IN/+SHIFT, OUT/-SHIFT, and
SET buttons.
In the Rewind or Fast Forward mode, the
tape will automatically stop at, or within
a few frames of, counter reading "0".

When the Function Select mode is engaged, functions can
be set to ON or OFF. Functions are designated by memory
switch numbers and can be located with the +SHIFT and
-SHIFT buttons (® /@). ON/OFF selection is done with the
SET button @.
The Function Select (1) mode's Memory Switch menu is
outlined in the chart below.
Note:
You can use Function Select (2) mode to customize your
VCR. See "Customizing Your VCR" (p.16).

@® IN/+SHIFT button
When the Segment Repeat mode has been selected, press
together with the SET button to set the IN point of the tape
segment to be repeated. When pressed on its own, the
counter reading of the entered IN point is displayed. When
pressed together with the RESET button, the entered IN
point is cancelled.
Press to select the desired memory switch number when
the display is set to the Function Select mode.
@ SET button
In the Segment Repeat mode, press together with the IN or
OUT button to set the IN and OUT points of the tape
segment to be repeated.
In the Function Select mode, press to select ON/OFF for a
selected memory switch.
@ OUT/-SHIFT button
In the Segment Repeat mode, press together with the SET
button to set the OUT point of the tape segment to be
repeated. When pressed on its own, the counter reading of
the entered OUT point is displayed. When pressed together
with the RESET button, the entered OUT point is cancelled.
Press to select the desired memory switch number when
the display is set to the Function Select mode.
@® Tape direction indicators
These indicate the direction of tape travel in the Search
mode: ~@ for reverse, M@ for still, B for forward.
® Shuttle search dial
When the dial is set to STILL (center position), the Still
mode is engaged.
When the dial is turned clockwise (FWD), forward playback
takes place at a speed corresponding to the dial setting.
When the dial is turned counterclockwise (REV), reverse
playback takes place at a speed corresponding to the dial
setting. For more details see page 11.
@ OPERATE button
Secondary power switch which functions only when the rear
panel MAINS POWER switch is set to ON. If the OPERATE
button is set to OFF during operation, the VCR will
automatically enter the Stop mode and then switch the
power off.
