Search is possible at speeds of +1/30, 1/18, +1/6, +1, +2, +3,
+5, +9 times normal.
Noise bars are not visible in the Still and
Slow modes. (See page 16, "Customizing your VCR".)
@ Turn the search
dial until the desired search speed is
reached.
@ The search dial is effective in the Play, Still, Record-
Pause, FF, REW, and Stop modes.
® The STILL position (center click-stop) provides a still
picture.
e Turn the dial clockwise to search in the forward direction;
counterclockwise to search in the reverse direction.
@ When
the
dial
is
turned
fully
clockwise
or
counterclockwise,
maximum
search speed
(about 9
times normal) is provided.
When the REW or FF button is pressed in the Stop mode,
normal Rewind or Fast Forward takes place.
When one of
these buttons is pressed in the Play, Search or Still mode, the
"SHUTILE SEARCH & REW/FF
@ To cancel search, press the button corresponding to the
mode you wish to engage next (STOP, PLAY, FF, REW,
REC + PLAY.)
Pressing AUD DUB + PLAY, or EJECT will
have no effect.
@ The search dial will remain at the set position, regardless
of the mode entered next. To start search again, turn the
dial.
@ Vertical jitter, if observed
in the Still mode,
can
be
eliminated by turning the TRACKING/V.LOCK control.
® Hi-Fi audio signals are output only during search at
normal speed.
e@ Normal audio signals or time codes (LTC) are output
during search at all speeds (from x1 to x7) except slow
motion.
If the Still mode continues for about 5 minutes, 20
seconds, the tape tension loosens and the drum stops.
And the mode changes from Still to EE. To cancel this
status, press the button corresponding to the mode you
wish to engage next.
tape runs at about 9 times normal speed in the corresponding
direction. The buttons can be locked and the indicator will light.
You can view the speeded-up picture on the monitor screen.
COUNTER
SEARCH & REPEAT PLAYBACK
e By pressing the AUTO MODE button, you can select any
one
of the automatic
modes
described
below.
The
appropriate indicator will light.

Counter Search:
Automatically locates the position on the tape where the tape
counter was set to "0".
@ Press PLAY to start playback.
@ Press COUNTER RESET at the point on the tape which you
want to recall later. The counter will reset to "O000".
@ To start Counter Search, press REW or FF in the Stop
mode.
The tape will rewind or fast forward to the "0000"
position and stop automatically.
Full Repeat:
Automatic repeat playback of an entire tape.
@ Press PLAY to start playback. When the tape is finished, it
will rewind automatically and playback will begin again.
@ Press STOP to end Full Repeat playback.
@ With Memory
Switch 74 set to ON (see page 16),
recording takes place in the full Repeat mode.

Segment Repeat:
Automatic repeat playback of a specified segment on a tape.
@ Press PLAY to start playback.
@ Press the IN/+SHIFT and SET buttons simultaneously at
the beginning of the segment you want repeated.
© Press the OUT/-SHIFT and SET buttons simultaneously at
the end of the segment.
@ Set only the OUT point to repeat playback from the
beginning of the tape to the OUT point.
© Set only the IN point to repeat playback from the IN point
to the end of the tape.
e The entered point can be checked at any time on the
tape counter by pressing the IN/+SHIFT or OUT/-SHIFT
button.
If there
is no entry, the counter
does
not
respond.
© To cancel the entered IN or OUT point, press the RESET
button together with the IN /+SHIFT or OUT/-SHIFT
button.
e When no automatic operation is required, make sure that
no Auto Mode indicator is lit.
NOTES:
@ When specifying the IN and OUT points for Segment Repeat,
make sure that the display is in the tape counter mode.
© The segment between the IN and OUT points must be ai
least one minute.
