The BR-S605E
is equipped with two built-in PWB
(Printed
Wiring Board) extension slots. Optional PWB boards can be
installed in either slot, making it easy to customize the BR-
S605E for service in a variety of applications. Optional boards
include a 9-pin RS-232C
serial remote control board (SA-
K17E), a 45-pin parallel remote control board (SA-K18E), and a
timer
record/play
board
(SA-K19E)
for preprogrammed
automatic weekly or daily timer playback, as well as automatic
playback at any time over a two-week period. Timer recording
is also possible.
Optional RS-232C serial remote control board
With the optional 9-pin RS-232C serial remote control board
installed in the BR-S605E, direct interface with a personal
computer is possible. Data format is preset to match the
configuration used by most computers and modems, while data
transmission rates are selectable from 1200 to 9600 bps.
In
combination with appropriate software, this allows computer-
controlled VCR operation — either by direct interface or via a
modem.
S-VHS picture quality with built-in chroma enhancer*
The BR-S605E uses JVC's advanced S-VHS technology to
produce high-quality pictures with resolution of more than 400
lines.
Superior picture quality is assured even after repeated
dubbing thanks to the incorporation of several advanced video
processing circuits including a chroma enhancer circuit for
sharper colour edges with no colour spreading and an improved
colour
signal-to-noise
ratio.
Other
picture-improvement
technologies include improved luminance signal response,
improved crosstalk cancellation circuitry, and JVC's precision-
machined TS (Tape-Stabilizing) head drum for a stable, rock-
steady picture with no jitter or colour snaking.

In addition to two composite video output 'eninals the BR-
S605E
is equipped
with 7-pin Y/C 443 input and output
connectors for direct reception or transmission of the separate
luminance (Y) and chroma (C) signals.

Function
Select System for easy setup and
trouble-free operation
Anew FDP Function Select System with built-in memory allows
simple
pushbutton
setting and switching
of most
basic
functions while referring to the fluorescent display. Switchable
function settings for daily use include frame servo, TBC, mode
lock, S-VHS recording, Hi-Fi recording, Dolby NR, audio limiter,
time code recording, and audio output.
In addition, most
settings normally determined by internal DiP-switch settings
can also be adjusted via the FDP Function Select System. The
same display also functions as an hour meter, as well as a
conventional 5-digit counter display or 3-digit remaining tape
time display during normal operation. Warning codes are also
displayed.
Hi-Fi Stereo sound with dynamic range of more than 85
dB
Using two rotary FM-audio heads to record Hi-Fi audio signals
on a separate layer of tape, the Hi-Fi VHS system delivers
superb sound quality with extended frequency response and
dynamic range. Separate input terminals are provided for Hi-Fi
and normal audio to permit separate audio tracks to be
recorded on each of the four available channels.
To improve
performance on the normal audio track, the BR-S605E features
built-in Dolby* B noise reduction circuitry.
Audio dubbing is
possible on normal audio Channel-2.
Manual audio level controls and meters
Independent
level
meters
and
controls
permit
manual
adjustment of audio recording levels. The AUD-2/R meter can
be used as a video tracking meter during playback. Switchable
audio limiting is available with manual level control still possible
even when the limiter circuit is on.
