Checking the fitness for use
Please check the helmet shell, lining, chin strap and accessories at regular
intervals and depending on use (e.g. always after fire fighting, rescue and
salvage operations):
• A damaged helmet must not be used again.
It must be exchanged and rendered useless.
• The helmet is designed to absorb one impact only.
Like a car's crumple zone, the energy acting on the helmet is absorbed
by complete or partial destruction of the helmet's shell or lining structure.
After an impact or other force, the helmet must be replaced.
• Also, the helmet's paint surface must be checked for damage, since the
self-extinguishing special paint structure is an important factor for thermal
performance and damage to the paint can lead to a reduction in service life.
Small, superficial scratches do not reduce the protective effect.
• Even with helmet damage from high thermal effects or direct contact with
chemicals (sometimes detectable by damage to or changes in the shell paint
colour), the helmet must not be used any more.
For evaluation, use our damage overview in the download area at https://
www.schuberth.com/produkte/feuerwehr/downloads.html as a guide.
WARNING: As a rule, the helmet must not be used after being subjected
to a high impact or any other force. This applies even if no external damage
is visible.
WARNING: Since the shock-absorbing parts of the lining are also not
exposed to visible influences, we recommend that the helmet be replaced
after 15 years as a preventative measure.
