9. Troubleshooting
Caution: Before carrying out maintenance, repair or cleaning work, always disconnect the mains plug from the power
supply.
Symptom
Mains plug not plugged in.
Is the device switched on at the on/off switch?
Check any cable drums or extension cables.
Wire is not heating up.
Insulation between the cutting wire and bottom
wire deflector roll.
The power indicator (diode)
on the transformer does not
light up when the mains plug
Fuse is defective.
is plugged in and the on/off
switch is set to ON.
• The wire is too tightly tensioned
• Not using an original cutting wire
The wire breaks frequently.
Upper and/or lower wire deflector roll soiled/
corroded.
Wire too long.
Wire too loose.
Cuts are not straight.
Bearing rail not correctly aligned.
Cutting bow not opened far enough.
Root cause
Remedy
Insert the mains plug into an socket that has been
correctly installed by a qualified electrician.
Switching on (see figure 9.1).
• Check the cables for damage
• Reset the overload switch on the cable drum
• Perform a visual inspection of all external cables
on the device and make sure that they are
securely seated
Melted Styrofoam has run down the cutting wire
and cooled there; it forms an insulating layer after
hardening. No power can flow:
Open the wire tensioner, unhook the wire at the
bottom of the cutting bow and clean it (e.g., with
an abrasive non-woven fabric), replace the cutting
wire if necessary.
Use a small screwdriver and abrasive non-woven
fabric to carefully clean the wire guide roll until
there is no longer any hardened Styrofoam adher-
ing to the roll. The guide slot in the roll must be
clean. If needed, replace the wire guide roll (see
figure 9.2).
Check the fuse (see figure 9.1), replace if needed
(2 spare fuses are included in the foam board
cutter's scope of delivery). If the fuse blows again
immediately after replacement, have the device
checked by a STORCH service station.
Only install the cutting wire intended for the cutter
and pre-cut to length in the device.
Remove the wire and rolls. Clean the rolls with
abrasive non-woven fabric and reinstall. If this
does not resolve the problem, replace both rolls
and the fastening material (see figures 9.2 + 9.3).
Only install the cutting wire intended for the cut-
ting device and pre-cut to length in the device.
Tension the wire tensioner by turning it over to the
end position.
Ensure correct attachment to the cutting bow and
correct position over the wire guide roll (see figure
9.4).
After an extended period of operation, the spring
may have expanded and may need to be replaced.
Place a foam board on the right bearing rail and
push it up to the cutting wire (device switched off).
Use an Allen key to loosen the excentric under the
right bearing rail and align the excentric until the
foam board is parallel to the wire, retighten with
the Allen key.
Open the bow as far as it will go and fix it with the
locking screws (see figure 9.5).
