on, otherwise the high notes would be reproduced incorrectly. -
However, during playback of normally recorded cassettes the
Dolby system must be switched off, since otherwise the high
notes would
be reproduced
too softly. For that reason
it is
advisable to note on your cassettes whether they have been
recorded with or without Dolby system.
DNL (Dynamic Noise Limiter)
The dynamic noise limiter DNL - suppresses tape noise, with-
out affecting the natural timbre of music.
It operates only during soft passages and in the absence of
signals on the tape. Noise
need
not be suppressed
during
normal and loud passages, for in these cases it is barely audi-
dle.
The DNL functions only during playback and therefore has no
effect on any recording operation.
Automatic stop
The recorder incorporates a special mechanism which auto-
matically stops the motion of the cassette at the end of the tape
and releases all engaged keys. This mechanism functions dur-
ing recording, playback and fast winding.
Inserting and removing the cassette
The cassette holder can be opened and closed only if start key
@ is not. depressed. To release the start key, if necessary,
press stop key @9.
@ inserting: Press cassette holder release key 9. The cassette
holder will now spring up'and open. With the desired side of the
cassette
uppermost
and with the tape facing towards you,
push the cassette into the holder. Press the cassette holder
down at the front until it locks in position:
@ Removing: Press cassette holder release key @. The cas-
sette holder will spring up and open and the cassette can be
removed.
Counter, fast winding and rewinding
Make it a habit to set counter @ to '000', by pressing zero reset
button @9, immediately after inserting a cassette. By noting the
counter reading at which each recording commences, you will
later be able to locate any of your programmes rapidly by fast
winding or rewinding to the same reading by pressing either
key @5 or @9.
Note: The counter does not directly indicate the playing time of
the cassette.
Recording level adjustment
During recording, rotate the recording level control
@ in such
a way that during the loudest passages the pointer of recording
level indicator @ just reaches '100%'. The recording level is
then correctly adjusted. Should the pointer fail to reach the
100%' the level is too low, while if the pointer moves contin-
uously past '100%' the level is too high. Check the recording
level from time to time and readjust it (gradually) if necessary.
Remark: The position of the volume, stereo balance and tone
controls does not affect the recording.

Maintenance
The audio quality can be adversely affected by the dust and
grime which tend to accumulate on the magnetic heads. It is
therefore advisable to clean the heads from time to time, for
which purpose we recommend our special cleaning cassette,
type 811/CCT.
The cassette, which is played through in the
normal way with the recorder set for playback, should be used
after, say, every 50 hours of operation. With the recorder in
normal use, therefore, cleaning in this way should be carried
out once a month.
The driving mechanism must not be lubricated!
-Operation with external recorder
For recording and playback a reel-to-reel or cassette recorder
can be connected to socket @.
