7. The penetration depth of the device is 20 to 40 mm. Depending on the density of the
material, reading of inner depth is not possible. If the material is less than 2 cm thick, the
moisture content value may not be as accurate due to influence from adjacent material.
8. The spherical head must be kept perpendicular to the surface being measured.
9. The density of the measured material is an important factor to the measured value. The
measured value increases with density.
10. A main field of application for this device is for comparative measurements, comparing
measured values against a reference value. The reference value is established by measuring
a similar or identical material at a clearly dry area. If the subsequent measurements are
much higher than the reference value, it can be deduced that the areas being measured
are damp. This procedure is well suited for water damage assessment, to detect leaking
locations and areas of high humidity.
Measuring the moisture content
1. Turn the measuring device on by using the ON/OFF button (5). The device automatically
switches into HOLD (12) mode, i.e. no measurement is possible at this stage.
2. The measurement device has to be calibrated each time it is turned on. To calibrate it, hold
the measuring device up in the air, so that it does not touch any objects. The minimum
distance to any other surface should be 8 to 10 cm. Press the MEAS button (7) to start the
calibration.
3. During calibration, the LCD will show <CAL>.
4. After completion of the calibration, the LCD (6) will display the current moisture reading
(10). This value should be less than 0.5. If not, turn the measurement device off and repeat
the calibration.
5. Position the moisture sensor's spherical head (1) at a right angle to the surface. The display
will show the reading.
6. Move the measurement device to conduct measurements of larger surface areas. The LCD
should thereby display the current reading as well as the max. moisture reading (11) and
min. moisture reading (16).
7. If required, press the MEAS button to freeze the readings on the display. The display will
show HOLD, in addition to the last measured reading.
8. The readings are then displayed on the LCD for another 60 seconds, before the
measurement device turns itself off.
9. Alternatively, in HOLD mode press the MEAS button to continue measuring.
Setting the alert function
The meter also display three non-numerical formats of measurement: DRY, RISK and WET.
When the moisture status is at RISK and WET, the meter emits beeping alert noises.
At RISK level, the meter will beep about once every second.
At WET level, the meter will beep about three times every second.
By default, a moisture reading of < 30 is indicated by DRY; 30 - 60, by RISK; above 60, by WET.
Different materials have different tolerance of moisture. For more information, refer to Technical
Data. To program your threshold range:
1. When the HOLD icon (12) is displayed, press SET to enter the alert mode.
2. The RISK icon will blink. Press UP (2) or DOWN (4) to adjust the lower threshold value for
RISK. The value can be adjusted from 0 to 50. Press SET to confirm your choice.
3. The WET icon will blink. Press UP (2) or DOWN (4) to adjust the lower threshold value for
WET. The value can be adjusted from 50 to 100. Press SET to confirm your choice.
4. The LCD returns to the initial display.
5. The threshold value is permanently stored until it is changed next time.

Backlight

When the HOLD icon is displayed, press UP to switch the backlight on or off.
8. CARE
Clean the device as necessary with a soft damp cloth that is lint-free. Do not allow moisture to
penetrate into the housing. Do not use sprays, solvents, cleaning agents that contain alcohol or
abrasives; instead use only clean water to moisten the cloth.
9. DISPOSAL
Product
This symbol must appear on any electrical and electronic equipment placed on the
EU market. This symbol indicates that this device should not be disposed of as
unsorted municipal waste at the end of its service life.
Owners of WEEE (Waste from Electrical and Electronic Equipment) shall dispose
of it separately from unsorted municipal waste. Spent batteries and accumulators,
which are not enclosed by the WEEE, as well as lamps that can be removed from
the WEEE in a non-destructive manner, must be removed by end users from the
WEEE in a non-destructive manner before it is handed over to a collection point.
Distributors of electrical and electronic equipment are legally obliged to provide free take-back
of waste. Conrad provides the following return options free of charge (more details on our
website):
• in our Conrad offices
• at the Conrad collection points
• at the collection points of public waste management authorities or the collection points set
up by manufacturers or distributors within the meaning of the ElektroG
End users are responsible for deleting personal data from the WEEE to be disposed of.
It should be noted that different obligations about the return or recycling of WEEE may apply in
countries outside of Germany.
(Rechargeable) batteries
Remove batteries/rechargeable batteries, if any, and dispose of them separately from the
product. According to the Battery Directive, end users are legally obliged to return all spent
batteries/rechargeable batteries; they must not be disposed of in the normal household waste.
Batteries/rechargeable batteries containing hazardous substances are labelled with
this symbol to indicate that disposal in household waste is forbidden. The abbrevia-
tions for heavy metals in batteries are: Cd = Cadmium, Hg = Mercury, Pb = Lead
(name on (rechargeable) batteries, e.g. below the trash icon on the left).
Used (rechargeable) batteries can be returned to collection points in your municipality, our
stores or wherever (rechargeable) batteries are sold. You thus fulfil your statutory obligations
and contribute to environmental protection.
Batteries/rechargeable batteries that are disposed of should be protected against short circuit
and their exposed terminals should be covered completely with insulating tape before disposal.
Even empty batteries/rechargeable batteries can contain residual energy that may cause them
to swell, burst, catch fire or explode in the event of a short circuit.
