13. Sailing

Note
• Do not sail beyond the transmission range.
• Refer to section "14. Basic sailing theory" on
page 32 for some information about how to
sail.
• Sailboat runtime is approx. 1 hr with new bat-
teries inserted. It is recommended to replace
the batteries after 45 minutes of use.
a) Preparation
• Check the sailboat and all parts are correctly rigged.
• Make sure the transmitter and receiver batteries have
sufficient charge.
• Assess the sailing area:
- Wind direction
- Wind strength
- Potential hazards
- Debris
- Depth of water
b) Carrying the sailboat
To prevent the wind catching the sails and making it dif-
ficult to hold the sailboat:
• Always point the front of the sailboat into the wind.
• Hold by the hull and the mast pointing towards the sky.
c) Switch the transmitter and receiver
ON
1.
Open the sailboat compartment. See "b) Sailboat bat-
OpSwitch WOpt
tery compartment" on page 28
2. Transmitter: put the sail control stick in the down posi-
tion then switch the power ON.
3. Receiver: switch the power ON.
The transmitter and receiver status lights
should both be (solid green). If not see section
"11. Transmitter and receiver binding" on page
29.
4. Transmitter: put the sail control stick in the up position
to ease the sail control lines.
5. Close the sailboat compartment.
- Check the rudder and sail controls are working cor-
rectly.
- Make sure the compartment is closed properly. This
will help prevent water ingress.
d) Launching the sailboat
Note
• Before placing the sailboat into the water, it is
important to determine an effective launching
strategy.
• Make sure there is enough wind to sail out and
back again.
• Refer to section "d) Launching the sailboat" on
page 31 for further information.
Gently place the sailboat into the water:
• The sailboat should be facing the correct direction.
• The sail trim should be set for the "point of sail".
e) Finished sailing
1. Switch OFF the receiver first, and then switch OFF the
transmitter.
2. Carefully rinse away any dirt or debris.
3. Drain any water from inside the sailboat, remove any
inserted batteries, and allow to completely air dry be-
fore storing.
