Here are some launching strategies you can use to leave shore:
On shore wind
Cannot sail into the "no go zone".
Can sail "close hauled" or "reach-
ing"

Bow
Front of sailboat
Stern
Back of sailboat
Hull
Body of the sailboat
Deck
Upper surface of the hull
Keel and ballast
Extends under the sailboat and is weighted to prevent the sailboat from capsizing.
Upwind
Sailing into the wind (at 45° angles).
Downwind
Sailing away from the wind
Head up
Turning the bow towards the direction of the wind.
Bear away
Turning the bow away from the direction of the wind.
This is an area 45° on both sides of the wind direction where the sailboat cannot sail (sails will
No go zone
flap and the sailboat will stop).
Tacking
This is when the "bow" crosses the "no go zone" and the sails flip to the other side.
Jibing
This is when the "stern" crosses the "no go zone" and the sails flip to the other side.
Sail trim
Adjustments made to sails to optimize efficiency on each point of sail.
Point of sail
The direction sailed relative to the wind.
