8. Storing and thawing breastmilk

8.1 Storage

For healthy, term babies:

l Do not store breastmilk in the door of the refrigerator. Instead choose the coolest
point in the refrigerator (above the vegetable compartment).

8.2 Freezing

l Never fill bottles or "Pump & Save"* bags more than ¾ full to allow space for
possible expansion during freezing.
l Label bottles or "Pump & Save" bags with the date of expression.

8.3 Thawing

Warning
Do not thaw frozen breastmilk in a microwave or in a pan of boiling water
(danger of burning because of too hot milk).
l In order to preserve the components of the breastmilk, thaw in the refrigerator
overnight or by holding the bottle or "Pump & Save" bag under running warm
water (max. 37 °C).
l Gently shake the bottle or "Pump & Save" bag to blend any fat that has separated.
l The B-Well bottle warmer* enables breastmilk and baby food in glass jars to be
warmed gently so that there is no loss of vitamins and nutrients.
