8. Working instructions

Working with hedge trimmer
• The hedge trimmer may be used only for cutting
hedges, bushes and shrubs
• Hold the hedge trimmer with both hands on a safe
distance from the body.
• The maximal diameter to cut depends on the
wood's type, age, moisture and hardness.
• Therefore cut very thick branches using branch
shears to your desired length before trimming the
hedge.
• Due to its double sided knives the hedge trimmer
can be guided forward and backward or by oscillat-
ing movements from one to another side.
• At first cut the sides of the hedge and then the up-
per edge.
• Cut the hedge from the bottom up.
• Cut the hedge in trapezium shape.
• Stretch a guide over the complete length of the
hedge when you want to shorten the upper edge of
the hedge evenly.
• Trim in several passes if you have to cut down a
large portion of the hedge.
• Remove unconditionally any foreign objects out of
the hedge (e.g. wires) as these can damage the
knives of the hedge trimmer.
Best time for hedge trimming:
Leaved hedge: June and October
Conifer hedge: April and August
Quickly growing hedge: from May and then every 6
weeks
Pay attention to breeding birds in the hedge. If so, put
off hedge trimming or leave this area out.
Oil the blades and the angle adjustment each time
before starting work, with environmentally friendly lu-
bricant.
Regularly oil the blades during working hours as well.
WARNING! Oil the tool only when the motor has
been turned off.
CAUTION: Incorrect use and misuse can damage
the bush cutter and cause severe injuries because of
pieces hurled away.
To minimize the risk of accidents by use of the cutting
blade, take note of following points:
• Never cut shrubbery or wood whose diameter is
larger than 2 cm.
• Avoid contact with metal bodies, stones, etc.

• Periodically check the cutting blade for damages.
Never continue to use a damaged cutting blade.
• When the cutting blade becomes apparently blunt,
it must be sharpened according to instructions.
When the cutting blade is apparently out of bal-
ance, it must be replaced.

9. Maintenance

WARNING!
Before working on the device, disconnect the
mains cable from the socket.
Always wear protective gloves when working on
or around cutting tools.
• Regularly check the device before starting work.
• Damaged blades have to be repaired or replaced
by an authorised service department before you
can work with the device.
• Clean the blades with a soft brush after working
with the device and spray a thin layer of liquid pro-
tective oil on the whole blade.
• Always keep the ventilation holes in the motor cas-
ing free and clean.
• Never use water to clean or spray the device. Clean
the motor casing with a damp cloth and never use
detergents or solvents! This may damage the de-
vice's plastic parts. Dry the motor casing carefully
afterwards.
• Always store the machine with the supplied protec-
tive cover.
• Only use OEM parts for maintenance work. Using
parts other than original parts can cause damage
to the machine.
Check the hedge trimmer for obvious faults such
as:
• loose attachments
• worn or damaged components
• bent, broken or damaged cutting tools
• correctly attached and working covers and safety
devices
• wear, in particular, cutting tool play
Immediately replace damaged or blunt cutting
tools, even in the event of minor damage.
Wear Parts
Even when used in the intended way, some compo-
nents are subject to normal wear. They have to be
replaced depending on the kind of duration of usage.
These parts include, among others, the cutting tool
and the retaining disk.
m WARNING! Use only original manufacturer's re-
placement parts, accessories and attachments. Fail-
ure to do so can cause poor performance, possible
injury and may void your warranty.
