IP HYDRUS OILS
IP Hydrus Oils 32, 46, 68, 100
These grades are the most widely used for hydraulic drives, as they cover the viscosity range generally recommended
by major pump manufacturers; furthermore, their marked antiwear properties make them suitable for lubrication of
highly loaded modern pumps.
With the above delimitations, these grades are fully recommended for oil circulating and oil-bath lubrication systems
requiring additive-type antiwear oils (where turbine oils are not necessary). Typical applications include lubrication of
rolling bearing and gears not requiring specific E.P. oils (as is commonly the case with machine tools), moving
machinery operating inside and outside industrial plants, and oil circulating systems subjected to a wide temperature
range.
IP Hydrus Oils 220
It is the most viscous of the series and particularly suitable for normally loaded bearings and gears of heavier
machinery, even working at high temperatures (e.g., calenders for paper-making machinery and for plastic-material
machinery).
INSTRUCTION FOR USE AND WARNING
As already mentioned, IP Hydrus Oils grades from 32 to 100 shall not be used when parts of the machinery are silver-
plated (as in certain Lucas pumps), nor with temperatures over 160° (including surface temperatures of immersion-
type heater plugs, if any).
Guidelines for the Choice of Oil Viscosity in Hydraulic Drives
The manufacturers of hydraulic drives and systems generally state the most suitable oil viscosity for their equipments:
it is always advisable to follow these recommendations.
Generally speaking, the viscosity of an oil for hydraulic drives is established on the basis of the following
considerations:
viscosity must be such as to enable quick and adequate response of the system: this can be more easily obtained
-
with oil having a relatively low viscosity
viscosity must be such as to restrain, as far as possible, power losses and overheating due to internal friction.
-
Obviously, the more fluid the oil, the more limited will be the losses;
oil viscosity must be such as to ensure efficient seal in connection with backlash;
-
finally, viscosity shall satisfy the lubrication requirements of the pump and of the other components of the system.
-
PERFORMANCE
IP Hydrus Oils, in the grades intended for hydraulic systems, meet the requirements of the following standards and
specifications:
- VDMA 24318 German specification;
- Denison HF 2 specification;
- DIN 51524/2 standard, HLP class;
- ISO 6743/4 standard, HM class;
- CETOP RP 91 standard, HM class;
- AFNOR 48-603, HM class.
