IO-Link interface: Additional functions

7.1

Counter function

With the counter function, up to 65536 (16 bits) objects
can be detected by the sensor and evaluated with the help
of the preset value and process data.
The counter state CountValue can be read from Register
0x00B7. The counter function is parameterized using the
Switch Counter Settings parameter in Register 0x00B6.
Use Limit to specify a preselected value at the beginning.
After the sensor turns on, the counter begins with counter
state 0 and increments by 1 with each object detection.
When the preset value is reached, the counter output
(process data bit Count limit/Speed ok) is set.
The counter function can be used in STATIC, AUTO or
SPEED mode. The absolute counter state is output in Byte
0 and Byte 1 of the process data. When the mode is
changed it is automatically reset to 0. In SIO mode Pin 4 or
Pin 2 can be configured as a counter output using the Pin
Function Selection parameter. Alternatively Pin 2 can be
configured as Counter Reset.
To ignore brief counter pulses, Debounce Time can be
used to add a debounce function. The counter only recog-
nizes objects which were detected for longer than the
debounce time.
Counter function/frequency monitor see Device
specific parameters on page 23.
7.1.1

Counter Mode STATIC (manual reset)

In STATIC Mode the counter state is continually
incremented with each new object detection. As soon as
the counter state reaches the preselected value, the Count
limit/Speed ok bit in the process data is set and the
counter continues to increment. The counter state and
counter output can be reset in the process data using the
system command Counter Reset or setting the Counter
Reset bit.
To perform a reset in SIO mode, Pin 2 must be configured
as an input (parameter 0x00BC). A High signal on the
Reset input resets the counter output. The rising edge is
always used. When there is a continuous Reset signal, the
counter value and counter output are reset only once.

7.1.2

Counter Mode AUTO (automatic Reset)

After the preselected value has been reached, the counter
starts counting at counter value 1 with the next detection
of an object and the counter output is reset automatically.
A manual reset is always possible. The configuration of Pin
2 is not changed in Counter Mode AUTO.

Frequency monitor

In SPEED Mode, the frequency monitor is activated.
The frequency monitor monitors the system for over- and
under-frequency. For both cases, you can configure a
turn-on and turn-off value using UpperLimitHigh/Low and
LowerLimitHigh/Low in Register 0x00B6. The minimum
distance between the turn-on and turn-off value is 10 % of
the turn-on value.
As long as the measured frequency remains within the
parameterized expected range, the SCS: Count limit /
Speed ok bit in the process data and Register 0x00B7 is
set. If the measured frequency exceeds the UpperLimit-
High switching threshold, the Speed too high bit is set. If
the measured frequency falls below the LowerLimitLow
switching threshold, the bit Speed Too Low is set.
