Cooling circuit
5.1
Closed and open cooling circuit
Due to its good heat transmission properties, water is the most frequently used
thermal transfer medium for temperature control systems in the cooling water
circuit. Water is found in a large variety of compositions and is in most cases not
suited for closed cooling circuits without special treatment. Contaminations in the
circuits or corrosion on tools lead to a deterioration of the heat transfer and thus
to a performance reduction.
Totally clogged circuits prevent temperature control. The causes for this are:
Dissolved minerals are converted to solid particles, e.g. calcium.
