additional catch ring contained in the
kit (see Fig. 6).
Extract carefully the oil seal without
damaging it and proceed as follows:
During the assembly of the new
transmission shaft, the catch ring has to
be mounted on the shaft.
The catch ring prevents any axial
movement of the shaft. Otherwise
the final drive group may not
work correctly.
Make sure that, during assembly, the
catch ring enters perfectly in its seat on
the main shaft (see Fig. 6).
Put the original oil seal in its position. If
it is not in perfect conditions it has to
be replaced.

Second Roller Gear
Follow "Installation instructions" on
pg. 7, as looking at the scheme inserted
here beside (Fig. 7).
Simply insert the two roller sleeves in
the Malossi Roller Gear package into
the original slots.

ATTENTION: Gears for Piaggio
and Gilera scooters.
With the present letter we would like
to inform you that, since early 1998,
Piaggio has modified the keying of the
secondary drive gears in its scooters,
from ø 18 to 17,67 mm.
As even Piaggio itself is not able to give
any accurate and exact information
on when the new gears will start to
be fitted as standard on the various
types of scooters, and on the engine
reference numbers, currently the only
possibility is to check visually the gears
after disassembly.
