2.3 Safety instructions
– Theplantoperatormustbefullyawareofthepotential
risks and hazards attached to operation of the
 p articularprocessorplant.Theoperatorisresponsi-
bleforcorrecttrainingoftheworkforce,forsignsand
markings indicating sources of possible danger,
and for the selection of appropriate, state-of-the-art
 i nstrumentation.
– Itisessentialthatpersonnelinvolvedinthecommis-
sioning,operationormaintenanceofthesesensors
orofanyoftheassociatedequipment(e.g.housings,
transmitters,etc.)beproperlytrainedintheprocess
itself, as well as in the use and handling of the
 a ssociatedequipment.Thisincludeshavingreadand
understoodthisinstructionmanual.
– Thesafetyofpersonnelaswellasoftheplantitselfis
ultimatelytheresponsibilityoftheplantoperator.This
appliesinparticularinthecaseofplantsoperatingin
hazardouszones.
– Theconductivitysensorsandassociatedcomponents
havenoeffectontheprocessitselfandcannotinflu-
enceitinthesenseofanyformofcontrolsystem.
– Maintenance and service intervals and schedules
 d ependontheapplicationconditions,compositionof
thesamplemedia,plantequipmentandsignificance
ofthesafetycontrolfeaturesofthemeasuringsystem.
Processes vary considerably, so that schedules,
 w heresucharespecified,canonlyberegardedas
tentative and must in any case be individually
 e stablishedandverifiedbytheplantoperator.
– Wherespecificsafeguardssuchaslocks,labels,or
redundantmeasuringsystemsarenecessary,these
mustbeprovidedbytheplantoperator.
– Adefectivesensormustneitherbeinstallednorput
intoservice.
– Onlymaintenanceworkdescribedinthisoperatingin-
structionmaybeperformedonthesensors.
– Nomodificationstothesensorsandtheaccessories
are allowed. The manufacturer accepts no respon -
sibilityfordamagescausedbyunauthorisedmodi -
fications.Theriskisborneentirelybytheuser.
