Safety instructions for
rechargeable batteries
FIRE HAZARD! Do not allow
rechargeable batteries to shortcircuit.
Otherwise the rechargeable batteries
may overheat, become a fire hazard or explode.
RISK OF EXPLOSION! Never
throw rechargeable batteries into
fire or water.
Chemicals may leak from an old or exhausted
rechargeable battery and damage the product.
Remove the rechargeable batteries if you do
not intend to use the product for an extended
period of time.
WEAR PROTECTIVE GLOVES! If
they come into contact with skin,
leaked or damaged rechargeable
batter ies could cause chemical burns; you
should therefore wear suitable protective
gloves at all times if such an event occurs.
Only use rechargeable batteries of the right
size and of the recommended type (see section
on "Technical data").
Ensure correct polarity. This is indicated in the
battery compartment for the rechargeable
battery.
Functioning
The solar cell
installed in the article converts
1
sunlight into electrical energy and stores it in 2
NiMH batteries. Switches on the light as it begins
to get dark. The inbuilt light-emitting diodes are a
very long-life and energy-saving light source. The
light duration depends on the amount of sunlight,
the angle of light on the solar cell
temperature (the battery capacity is temperature-
dependent). A vertical angle of light at temperatures
above the freezing point is ideal. The battery does
not achieve maximum capacity until after several
charge and discharge cycles.

Preparing for use
Assembling the solar
garden thermometer
Assemble the solar garden thermometer in accord-
ance with Figs. A – F:
Setting the solar garden
thermometer in position
Insert the assembled solar garden thermometer
far enough into the ground (lawn, flower bed)
for it to be stable.
Ensure that you are standing in a stable, well-
balanced position. Do not use excessive force,
e.g. strike the product with a hammer, when
you are assembling it or setting it in position.
This could damage the product. For the best
results, set the solar garden thermometer in a
position where the solar cell
direct sunlight for as long as possible.
Do not position the solar garden thermometer
under bushes, trees, canopies etc., as these
features could reduce the amount of direct
sunlight.
Position the solar garden thermometer so that
the solar cell
Make sure that the solar cell
enced by any other source of light such as
yard or street lighting as otherwise the light will
not come on in twilight.
The light automatically switches on in twilight
conditions and off again when normal outdoor
lighting conditions return.
